You can import custom fields or attributes to Shopify through product metafields by following these steps:
- From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Metafields and metaobjects.
- Select Products, then click Add definition.
- Enter the metafield name, namespace and key, and choose the correct data type. For example, a “Material” field could use
custom.materialwith the Single line text type.
- Prepare your product CSV and add a new column for the metafield. The header should follow this format:
product.metafields.custom.material. - Enter the appropriate metafield value for each product in that column.
- Go to Products > Import, upload your CSV, review the import summary, and click Import products.
After the import finishes, open several products to confirm that the custom fields and values appear correctly. If the attributes are selectable choices such as size or colour, add them through the product option columns instead, including Option1 Name and Option1 Value.
