Magento counts products differently from many other eCommerce platforms. In Magento, each variant of a configurable product exists as a separate simple product, and Magento counts these child products together with their parent configurable product in the Admin.
For example, if one configurable product has three variants, Magento may count it as four products:
- 1 configurable parent product
- 3 simple child products
The storefront may display only the parent product, while Catalog > Products shows both the parent and its child products. As a result, the product total in Magento can appear higher than on your Source Store even when we have migrated the catalog correctly.
Similarly, when migrating from Magento to another platform, the total may decrease if that platform counts a parent product and all its variants as a single product. We recommend comparing parent products and variants separately when checking the migration results.
