Why some Product Permalinks on WooCommerce contain SKU?

Some WooCommerce product permalinks contain an SKU because multiple products on your Source Store share the same name. Since WordPress requires every product slug to be unique, duplicate product names may create URL conflicts during migration.

Therefore, when we detect products with duplicate names during the WooCommerce migration, we add each product’s SKU to its permalink to create a unique URL and prevent possible errors.

For example, if two products are both named Classic T-Shirt, their permalinks may appear as:

  • yourstore.com/product/classic-t-shirt
  • yourstore.com/product/classic-t-shirt-TS002

Here, TS002 is the SKU added to create a unique URL for the second product.

If you want to change the permalink after migration, go to Products > All Products, edit the relevant product, update its URL slug, and save your changes. Make sure the new slug is unique. If the original URL has already been indexed or shared, create a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one to avoid 404 errors and preserve SEO signals.
