Yes, you can migrate categories and subcategories of products to Shopify. However, Shopify organizes categories under collections. Meanwhile, subcategories will be converted into tags associated with the products, helping you organize and filter items within Shopify collections.
There are two types of Shopify collections:
- Manual Collections: You add products to these collections manually. These are ideal for smaller, curated collections or when products don’t share common attributes.
- Smart Collections: Products are automatically included based on conditions you set, such as tags, price ranges, or vendor names. These are great for larger catalogs or dynamic collections.
Thus, during the switch, your source categories have to be transferred into Shopify collections, and products should receive tags according to the subcategories of your Source Store. To preserve all the relations between product categories and subcategories, it is highly advisable to choose our additional option “Migrate Source Store categories into Shopify Smart Collections”.
