Migrate BigCommerce to Shopify Through the API

Step 1: Connect Your Stores

Install the LitExtension Store Migration app and create a migration. Select BigCommerce as the source and enter your store URL. Follow the BigCommerce API setup guide to create a store-level V2/V3 token with the required read-only permissions. Enter the credentials requested by the app; your current Shopify store is the target.

Step 2: Select Data and Additional Options

Select the supported products, categories, customers, orders, coupons, pages, and blog posts you need. Review available mapping settings and additional options, including 301 redirects, order identifiers, and images in descriptions. Confirm any custom data requirements before running the transfer.

Step 3: Check the Demo and Run Full Migration

Run a free demo and check variant combinations, SKUs, images, customer addresses, order totals, and product-to-collection assignments in Shopify. Resolve mapping issues before purchasing the full migration. Track progress in the dashboard; the transfer continues on LitExtension servers after you close the browser.

Migrate BigCommerce to Shopify Using Exported CSV Files

Use LitExtension Files Migration when you already have BigCommerce exports or prefer not to share source API credentials. LitExtension reads your files and imports supported data into your connected Shopify store.

Step 1: Export and Upload Your BigCommerce Data

Export products, customers, and orders into separate files. Check that the exports contain the identifiers, variant details, image URLs, and customer/order references needed for your migration.

In the LitExtension app, choose Files as the Source Cart and upload your exports, with Shopify as the target. Other data types need their own corresponding files.

Step 2: Review Field Mapping and Data Check

Confirm each file’s data type and map its columns to Shopify fields. Check how product rows group into products, variants, and images, then run Data Check. Correct missing required values, invalid emails, duplicates, and broken image URLs before proceeding. Image links must be publicly accessible; provide the old store URL for relative image paths.

Step 3: Run a Demo, Then the Full Migration

Select your data, available additional options, and order status mapping. Run a free demo, inspect the imported records, and correct any mapping issues before the full transfer. Keep the source files unchanged while the migration runs.

CSV coverage depends on your exports. Missing fields cannot be recovered from the files alone. Reviews are not supported by the automated Files Migration tool and need a separate import or custom assessment. If BigCommerce keeps receiving orders, prepare fresh exports and agree how new and changed records will be handled before launch; files do not provide a live sync.

Protect SEO During Your Migration

BigCommerce URLs may change because Shopify uses paths such as /products/ and /collections/. Map each important old URL to its closest new equivalent. For example, /blue-shirt/ may become /products/blue-shirt, and /mens-shirts/ may become /collections/mens-shirts; check your actual source URLs.

Use the 301 redirect option for supported URLs and review brand pages, content URLs, and existing redirects separately. Test priority landing pages, avoid redirect chains, and check metadata, internal links, and canonicals before launch. CSV migrations need source URL data for redirect mapping. Migrate BigCommerce B2B and Multi-Storefront Data

Map company accounts, buyers, customer groups, price lists, payment terms, and purchasing rules before migrating. Shopify B2B is available on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus, with features and catalog limits varying by plan. Plus supports direct company catalogs and advanced payment features; review Shopify’s B2B plan comparison before choosing.

Quotes, approval workflows, credit limits, and ERP connections need individual assessment. For BigCommerce Multi-Storefront, document each domain, catalog, currency, and shared inventory relationship before deciding on Shopify Markets or separate stores. Confirm how products, variants, customers, orders, and other records are counted. Shopify subscriptions, paid themes, replacement apps, and development work should be budgeted separately unless expressly included.

Data transfer is one part of the project. Allow time for API access or file preparation, mapping, demo corrections, validation, and launch. Images, catalog complexity, order history, API limits, and custom requirements affect the transfer time. Request a scoped schedule after the source data and demo have been reviewed.

Check Your Shopify Store Before Launch

• Data: Compare record counts and sample complex products, variants, customer addresses, discounts, and historical orders. Review descriptions and embedded images.
• Store setup: Configure your theme, menus, replacement apps, payment provider, shipping, taxes, and fulfillment connections.
• Customer experience: Test accounts, order history, search, filters, checkout, emails, and mobile pages.
• Final update: Agree a brief editing freeze and reconcile inventory and orders. For API migrations, use Recent Data Migration for supported new records and Smart Update for supported changes. For files, provide updated exports and confirm the update process with support.
• Launch: Test redirects and checkout, agree a fallback plan, then connect your domain to Shopify. Connecting a domain does not require transferring its registration.
• Monitor: Verify analytics and advertising events, submit the Shopify sitemap in Search Console, and watch errors, traffic, orders, and payments after launch.
