Plan Your Shift4Shop to BigCommerce Migration

List the products, category data, customer records, historical orders, and manufacturers your business needs in BigCommerce. Keep representative source examples for comparison, including products with Advanced Options, special prices, several images, different stock levels, and orders with multiple items.

This page describes Automated Migration. You control configuration and review, with support available for migration issues. Data migration does not convert Shift4Shop themes, apps, custom scripts, or operational settings into BigCommerce equivalents.

Prepare Backups and Target Records

Keep copies of important source data, assets, and content. Record selected entity counts and retain products with standard and Advanced Options, customers with billing addresses, manufacturer images, and orders with several statuses and totals.

If you use Shift4Shop’s native exports for backup, review the selected filters and include order items with historical orders. The source documentation separates general product data, product options, Advanced Options, and inventory exports. A single product file does not establish a complete backup of every related record.

Prepare BigCommerce and inspect existing target records. Save a target backup, identify records that must remain, and agree on how to handle Demo/test data before enabling Clear Target Data. Prepare the target theme, replacement apps, payments, shipping, taxes, notifications, and checkout separately.

Step 1. Connect Shift4Shop and BigCommerce

Sign in to the LitExtension app and create a migration. Select Shift4Shop as Source Cart and BigCommerce as Target Cart, then provide the required store details.

Both platforms are hosted. Follow the access instructions displayed for each store rather than trying to upload an open-source connector. Complete the connection checks before selecting data and keep the required access available through transfer and validation.

If a check fails, review store details and access setup, then share the error with support. Source CSV exports can serve as backups without replacing LitExtension’s connection workflow.

Step 2. Select Data and Additional Options

Products, Advanced Options, and Variants

Products include names, SKUs, short/full descriptions, status, manufacturer, regular/special prices, quantities, stock-management settings, meta titles/descriptions, weight, dimensions, tags, attributes, variants, thumbnail images, and additional images.

Shift4Shop Advanced Options can track combinations with their own stock and price information. BigCommerce distinguishes inventory-bearing variants from modifiers that customize a purchase. Review representative selections, displayed prices, quantities, images, and cart behavior in the Demo.

Attributes and Variants are included as groups, without a promise to reproduce every dependency, swatch, custom input, fee, or app-controlled pricing rule. Related Products, barcodes, creation dates, and downloadable/grouped-product functionality are not included. Plan required replacement functionality separately.

Category Fields and Manufacturers

Category data includes descriptions, sort order, images, and meta titles/descriptions. Category names, separate parent fields, creation dates, and update dates are not included. Review the target category presentation and prepare the remaining organization and navigation separately.

Manufacturers include names and images. Manufacturer descriptions, metadata, and creation/update dates are not included. Compare representative images and how manufacturers appear with products in BigCommerce.

Customer Profiles and Account Access

Customer profiles include first names, last names, emails, billing addresses, and subscription status. Source Subscribed maps to the target subscription flag. Passwords, separate saved shipping addresses, customer groups, standalone phone numbers, and customer status are not included.

Prepare BigCommerce account access and password setup or recovery communications before launch. Test the intended login and order-history experience with representative customer records. Historical-order billing/shipping addresses are separate from saved customer-profile addresses.

If you use customer groups for wholesale pricing or restricted access, plan the target setup separately. Transferring customer profiles does not recreate Shift4Shop group rules, price lists, or B2B workflows.

Historical Orders and External References

Orders include dates, statuses, items, subtotal, discounts, taxes, shipping price, total price, comments, customer names/emails, and billing/shipping addresses. Order Items and addresses remain groups without added detailed-field promises. Order tags and tracking fields are not included.

Select Preserve Order IDs to retain original Shift4Shop references in BigCommerce’s External ID field. BigCommerce assigns its own internal order IDs. Compare both references in the Demo and confirm how staff will locate older purchases.

Review historical totals and customer relationships against source orders. Check final product quantities after the order transfer and final updates, as well as after catalog import. Use the source order as the comparison record for an older purchase.

Prepare Content and Features Outside the Transfer

Coupons, Reviews, CMS Pages, Blogs, Taxes, and Multiple Languages are not included as separate entities. Export or retain the source material your team needs and prepare it separately in BigCommerce. Native Shift4Shop export availability does not establish that a record is included in this migration.

Historical tax and discount amounts can transfer without configuring tax rules or coupon logic. Plan review presentation, policy/information pages, articles, translated content, loyalty features, and integrations before launch.

Configure the Applicable Options

Create 301 Redirects connects old Shift4Shop URLs to relevant BigCommerce destinations. Preserve Order IDs keeps source references as External IDs. Strip HTML Tags cleans product names; it does not add category-name transfer.

Description Images covers reachable images embedded in product and category descriptions. Inspect these separately from product thumbnails, additional images, category images, and manufacturer images. It does not add page or blog migration.

Clear Target Data removes existing target records for selected migration entities. Save a backup and inspect the cleanup scope before enabling it. Shopify Smart Collections does not apply to BigCommerce.

Step 3. Review the Free Demo and Complete Migration

Run a Free Demo before Full Migration. Compare product text, options, prices, quantities, dimensions, images, metadata, category fields, manufacturer images, customer billing/subscription data, external order references, totals, and relationships.

Matching counts alone do not establish correctness. Save source and target examples of unexpected values, formatting, images, or relationships so support can investigate the specific records. Resolve discrepancies before starting the full transfer.

Full Migration runs on LitExtension’s servers, so you can close your browser and return to check progress. Shift4Shop can continue accepting orders during transfer. Your team reviews the completed automated migration and prepares the storefront for launch.

Review SEO, Checkout, and Final Updates

Keep a list of important old product, category, and content URLs. Test redirects to relevant BigCommerce destinations, update internal links, and review product/category metadata. Recreate required pages outside this transfer before directing their old URLs to the new store.

Test navigation, account access, product selections, stock behavior, payments, shipping, taxes, notifications, and checkout on desktop and mobile. Redirects do not guarantee unchanged rankings. Keep source access and assets available until validation and final updates are complete.

Track new and changed source records. Recent Migration transfers new records, Smart Update handles changes, and Re-migration reruns the transfer. These operations are free for 60 days and do not provide continuous synchronization. Review final data and stock levels before launch.
