Step 1. Set up your source and target stores

Select your Source Cart and Wix as the Target Cart from the dropdown menus.

Enter your store URLs and configure the required connection method for each platform:

• API credentials,
• Admin access,
• Or connector installation.

The system will validate your credentials and establish a secure, encrypted connection to ensure safe data transmission between both environments.

Step 2. Choose the data to migrate

Define the scope of your migration by selecting specific data entities such as products, categories, and customers.

You can map fields between platforms, preserve IDs, and configure additional options such as 301 redirects. This step ensures data consistency, structural integrity, and compatibility with Wix’s data schema.

Step 3. Run the migration

Method 3. Migrate your data to Wix manually with CSV files

Manual migration puts every step in your hands, from data export to final quality checks before launch. It’s a viable option for small stores with limited product catalogs and a tight budget, but it’s genuinely time-intensive and carries a real risk of human error. Missed product attributes and broken image links are common pitfalls when everything is done piece by piece.

One important limitation to know upfront: Wix’s CSV import tool supports a maximum of 5,000 rows per file, and product categories cannot be imported via CSV due to platform restrictions. You’ll need to recreate those manually in the Wix dashboard. That said, here’s how the process works:

Step 1. Export your data from the old platform

Most eCommerce platforms let you export store data (products, customers, orders) as a CSV file from the admin panel. Back up everything before you begin. If something goes wrong during the transfer, you’ll want a clean copy of your original data to fall back on.

Step 2. Reformat your data to match Wix’s CSV template

Wix requires product data in a specific format. Download the official Wix CSV template by going to Store Products > More Actions > Import > Download CSV Template in your Wix dashboard. Your exported file will need to be restructured to match this template’s column layout exactly; adding or removing columns will cause import errors. If your data contains non-Latin characters, save the file in UTF-8 encoding via Google Sheets before uploading. This step is where most manual migrations slow down, especially for larger catalogs.

Step 3. Rebuild your store design from scratch

Design elements, including themes, page layouts, navigation menus, banners, and homepage sections, cannot be transferred from your old store. You’ll need to rebuild your storefront inside Wix’s drag-and-drop editor from the ground up. Taking screenshots of your key pages before migration makes this process faster and helps keep your branding consistent.

Step 4. Import your product data into Wix

Once your CSV file is formatted correctly, go to Store Products > More Actions > Import in your Wix dashboard and upload the file. After uploading, Wix will display a summary of successfully imported items and flag any rows with errors for review. Note that images can take up to one hour to upload for large catalogs, and each import file is limited to 5,000 rows. For data that can’t be imported via CSV, such as discount codes, tax settings, and shipping configurations, you’ll need to re-enter these manually in the Wix dashboard.

Tips for a Smooth Wix Migration

• Back up your entire source store before anything else: Create a full backup of your current store before the migration process begins. If anything goes wrong during the transfer, you’ll have a clean version to restore from.
• Clean up your store data beforehand: Migrating disorganized data produces disorganized results. Remove discontinued products, inactive customer records, duplicates, and outdated content before you start. If your categories are inconsistent, reorganize them now so your Wix store launches with clean navigation.
• Screenshot your key page designs and layouts: Since your theme, homepage layout, banners, navigation menus, and visual styles cannot be carried over automatically, you’ll need to rebuild them in Wix. Taking screenshots of your most important pages before migration gives you a clear visual reference and speeds up the rebuild.
• Test your Wix store on desktop, tablet, and mobile before going live: Once migration is complete, check every page across multiple devices and browsers before publishing. Look for broken links, images that aren’t loading, overlapping elements, and mobile display issues. Also place a few test orders to confirm your cart, checkout flow, and payment gateways are working correctly.
