Let’s start the WIX migration. Once the process is kicked off, it will constantly run even when you turn off your browser.
Wix migration isn’t one-size-fits-all. Based on your needs, skills, and budget, there are three main approaches, each with trade-offs. Some choose expert-led migration for accuracy and convenience, others use automated tools, while some prefer manual migration for full control.
Below are the three methods to help you decide:
Method 1. Migrate your data to Wix with our migration tool
LitExtension’s Wix migration tool is a fast, secure option for stores with simple structures that need to transfer products and customers. Here are step-by-step instructions for transferring data using the LitExtension migration tool:
Step 1. Set up your source and target stores
Select your Source Cart and Wix as the Target Cart from the dropdown menus.
Enter your store URLs and configure the required connection method for each platform:
- API credentials,
- Admin access,
- Or connector installation.
The system will validate your credentials and establish a secure, encrypted connection to ensure safe data transmission between both environments.
Step 2. Choose the data to migrate
Define the scope of your migration by selecting specific data entities such as products, categories, and customers.
You can map fields between platforms, preserve IDs, and configure additional options such as 301 redirects. This step ensures data consistency, structural integrity, and compatibility with Wix’s data schema.
Note: For customized data, please chat with our data migration consultant for free assistance.
Step 3. Run the migration
Initiate the migration process with a single click. The system will transfer your data via a secure background process, using batch processing and automated retries to handle large datasets and prevent data loss.
Progress is tracked in real time, and the migration continues independently on the server, even if you close your browser. Upon completion, you can review logs, verify migrated records, and perform post-migration checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Method 2. Migrate your data with our migration experts
If you want the most hands-off Wix migration experience, our All-in-One package is the right call. Our expert team handles every step of the process, from the initial consultation through to post-launch support, so you can focus on running your business.
Step 1. Technical consultation with our experts
Before migration begins, we schedule a technical consultation to make sure the process is scoped correctly for your store. During this call, we examine the size, structure, and complexity of your current site, determine the total number of items to be transferred (products, blog posts, images, customer data), and review any custom data requirements.
By the end, you’ll have a clear migration roadmap and know exactly what to expect at each step.
Step 2. Pre-migration customization
With the scope confirmed, we work with you to configure the migration settings before anything is transferred. This means selecting which data types to move, deciding how content will be organized on Wix, and flagging any special requests, such as preserving your existing URL structure or excluding outdated records.
Getting these details locked in early reduces the risk of errors and avoids costly rework later.
Step 3. Run demo migration
Before the full transfer, we run a demo migration using a limited sample of your data. This gives you a concrete preview of how your content will look on Wix and lets us catch any layout issues or mapping errors before they affect your entire store. If anything needs adjusting, we fix it at this stage, not after.
Step 4. Perform the full migration
Once you approve the demo, we move on to the full Wix migration. All selected data is transferred according to the settings you approved, with continuous monitoring to prevent data loss or duplication. We preserve content relationships, such as links between pages and product categories, to keep your site structure intact.
Your existing store stays live throughout the process, so there’s no disruption to sales.
Step 5. Migration results testing
After the full transfer is complete, we run multiple rounds of testing to verify that all data has been migrated accurately and that your new Wix store functions as expected. Once everything checks out, we send you a project outcome confirmation to sign off on the results.
Step 6. Post-migration tasks
Because your original store stays active during migration, new data such as orders, customer records, and product updates may be created after the transfer completes. To cover this, we offer the following post-migration services:
- Unlimited recent data migration for any new data that represents less than 5% of the initial migration, available for 30 days after completion.
- Free and unlimited re-migration within 30 days after the migration is completed.
- Free and unlimited smart update within 90 days after migration is completed.
Step 7. Customer support post migration
Our support doesn’t end when your Wix migration does. If you run into any technical issues or have questions about your new setup within 30 days of completion, our Customer Support Team is available to help. Whether it’s a configuration question or a data discrepancy, a dedicated tech expert is always on hand.
Method 3. Migrate your data to Wix manually with CSV files
Manual migration puts every step in your hands, from data export to final quality checks before launch. It’s a viable option for small stores with limited product catalogs and a tight budget, but it’s genuinely time-intensive and carries a real risk of human error. Missed product attributes and broken image links are common pitfalls when everything is done piece by piece.
One important limitation to know upfront: Wix’s CSV import tool supports a maximum of 5,000 rows per file, and product categories cannot be imported via CSV due to platform restrictions. You’ll need to recreate those manually in the Wix dashboard. That said, here’s how the process works:
Step 1. Export your data from the old platform
Most eCommerce platforms let you export store data (products, customers, orders) as a CSV file from the admin panel. Back up everything before you begin. If something goes wrong during the transfer, you’ll want a clean copy of your original data to fall back on.
Step 2. Reformat your data to match Wix’s CSV template
Wix requires product data in a specific format. Download the official Wix CSV template by going to Store Products > More Actions > Import > Download CSV Template in your Wix dashboard. Your exported file will need to be restructured to match this template’s column layout exactly; adding or removing columns will cause import errors. If your data contains non-Latin characters, save the file in UTF-8 encoding via Google Sheets before uploading. This step is where most manual migrations slow down, especially for larger catalogs.
Step 3. Rebuild your store design from scratch
Design elements, including themes, page layouts, navigation menus, banners, and homepage sections, cannot be transferred from your old store. You’ll need to rebuild your storefront inside Wix’s drag-and-drop editor from the ground up. Taking screenshots of your key pages before migration makes this process faster and helps keep your branding consistent.
Step 4. Import your product data into Wix
Once your CSV file is formatted correctly, go to Store Products > More Actions > Import in your Wix dashboard and upload the file. After uploading, Wix will display a summary of successfully imported items and flag any rows with errors for review. Note that images can take up to one hour to upload for large catalogs, and each import file is limited to 5,000 rows. For data that can’t be imported via CSV, such as discount codes, tax settings, and shipping configurations, you’ll need to re-enter these manually in the Wix dashboard.
When to Perform Wix Migration?
There’s no universal right time to migrate, but there are clear signals that your current platform is holding you back. A Wix migration makes sense when:
- Your current platform no longer supports your business growth, whether in terms of traffic, features, or customization.
- You’re looking for built-in marketing tools, easier design options, or stronger integration with content-focused features like blogs or video.
- Your team needs a more user-friendly backend so they can handle daily operations without relying on a developer.
- You want a cleaner, more mobile-responsive storefront without rebuilding everything from scratch.
- You want to reduce maintenance overhead and move to a more all-in-one platform.
If any of these apply to your situation, a Wix migration is likely the right next step.
Tips for a Smooth Wix Migration
- Back up your entire source store before anything else: Create a full backup of your current store before the migration process begins. If anything goes wrong during the transfer, you’ll have a clean version to restore from.
- Clean up your store data beforehand: Migrating disorganized data produces disorganized results. Remove discontinued products, inactive customer records, duplicates, and outdated content before you start. If your categories are inconsistent, reorganize them now so your Wix store launches with clean navigation.
- Screenshot your key page designs and layouts: Since your theme, homepage layout, banners, navigation menus, and visual styles cannot be carried over automatically, you’ll need to rebuild them in Wix. Taking screenshots of your most important pages before migration gives you a clear visual reference and speeds up the rebuild.
- Test your Wix store on desktop, tablet, and mobile before going live: Once migration is complete, check every page across multiple devices and browsers before publishing. Look for broken links, images that aren’t loading, overlapping elements, and mobile display issues. Also place a few test orders to confirm your cart, checkout flow, and payment gateways are working correctly.
Popular Questions About Wix Migration
Wix imposes specific limitations that can affect product variant migration.
Each product can have a maximum of 1,000 variants and up to 6 options, such as size or color. If your source product exceeds either of these limits, some variants will not be imported unless reduced beforehand.
When a product includes options but no variants, Wix will only generate variants automatically if the total number of possible combinations is 1,000 or fewer; otherwise, only the options are imported. For products that already include both options and variants, the total number of variants must still remain within the 1,000 limit.
If your source store meets these requirements, meaning no more than 6 options and no more than 1,000 variants per product, all variants and options will be successfully migrated to Wix.

Customer passwords cannot be migrated to Wix. Each platform uses its own encryption method, which prevents direct transfer between systems.
In addition, Wix is a hosted solution, so there is no access to its database to validate or replicate password encryption. Customers will need to reset their passwords after migration.
There’s no single fixed timeline since it depends on your data volume and the method you choose. Our automated migration tool runs in the background and can move a small to mid-size catalog within a few hours, continuing even after you close the tab.
For larger catalogs or a fully custom setup, our All-in-One experts give you a clear timeline during the initial technical consultation, so you know exactly when your Wix store will go live.
Yes, Wix migration supports setting up Wix-compatible payment gateways. We configure your checkout and payment settings to ensure seamless operations.
Wix migration has several platform-specific limitations. Fully automated transfer supports products, orders, and coupons. Categories cannot be imported due to Wix’s technical structure. Customers are not migrated directly but are automatically created from order data. The “clear data” option applies only to visible products and coupons in your Wix store; orders cannot be cleared.
If executed correctly, Wix migration can preserve or even improve SEO performance. Set up proper 301 redirects, maintain meta tags, and configure SEO settings to retain search rankings. Our Create 301 Redirects option supports this process.
