LitExtension’s Magento Upgrade Service upgrades Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce stores to Magento 2.4.9 or another supported release.

Our Magento specialists can handle the technical version upgrade, platform dependencies, extensions, themes, custom modules, integrations, data migration, testing, and production launch according to the approved project scope.

For Magento 1, we provide a complete Magento 2 migration and custom-store rebuild rather than treating it as a routine version update.

Upgrade Magento Without Leaving Your Business Data Behind

Review the technical, custom-development, and data requirements for your Magento upgrade. Start with an assessment and receive a scope-based project plan.

How LitExtension’s Magento Upgrade Service Works

We assess the complete Magento environment, execute the approved upgrade path in staging, validate the store, and coordinate a controlled production launch.

Magento Upgrade Consultation with Experts
Step 1: Technical Audit and Upgrade Plan

We review your Magento edition and version, codebase, hosting stack, extensions, theme, custom modules, integrations, data, and business-critical workflows. We then confirm the target release, upgrade method, responsibilities, timeline, testing scope, and rollback plan.

Magento Store Setup and Preparation
Step 2: Staging Upgrade and Custom Compatibility

Our team performs the approved Magento core, dependency, infrastructure, extension, theme, custom-code, integration, and data work in a separate environment. Issues are resolved and documented before production deployment.

Complete Magento Upgrade Execution
Step 3: Testing, Cutover, and Production Launch

We validate functionality, integrations, data, and key storefront flows, then support merchant UAT. After approval, we coordinate final data synchronization, deployment, launch checks, and the post-upgrade support included in the project.

End-to-End Magento Upgrade Service for Magento 2.4.9

LitExtension’s Magento Upgrade Service helps merchants upgrade Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce to Magento 2.4.9 or another supported release without treating the project as a simple version-number change. We assess the application, infrastructure, extensions, custom code, integrations, business data, and launch requirements before defining the safest upgrade path.

Our Magento version upgrade service can combine technical application work, custom-store development, and LitExtension’s data-migration expertise in one coordinated project. This is useful for stores that need more than a core update but do not want separate teams handling code compatibility, historical data, SEO continuity, testing, and cutover.

Choose the Right Magento Upgrade Path

Not every store should be upgraded in the same way. The recommended approach depends on how far the source version is behind, the condition of the codebase, the number of extensions and integrations, and whether the business plans to retain or replace the current storefront.

  • Technical Magento 2 version upgrade: We update the existing Magento 2 application and its required dependencies in a staging environment, resolve compatibility issues within the agreed scope, validate the store, and prepare the production release.
  • Clean-store Magento 2 rebuild: We prepare a fresh target installation, migrate the selected business data, and rebuild the approved theme, extensions, integrations, and custom functionality. This route may be more suitable when the current environment contains extensive legacy code or when a redesign is already planned.
  • Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration: Because Magento 1 and Magento 2 use different architectures, this is a full platform migration and store rebuild. Data, storefront functionality, extensions, integrations, and custom requirements are mapped to Magento 2 rather than updated in place.

The assessment identifies which parts can be upgraded, which should be replaced, and which should be retired. LitExtension then documents the agreed technical scope, data scope, testing responsibilities, deployment plan, and project-specific exclusions before execution.

Supported Magento Version Upgrade Paths

Our Magento 2 upgrade service can support projects moving from older Magento 2.x releases to Magento 2.4.9 or another release selected for compatibility with the store’s requirements. Common projects include stores on Magento 2.3.x or earlier Magento 2.4.x versions that need a supported core, current software dependencies, security updates, and a more maintainable implementation.

The target version is not selected in isolation. We review Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce edition requirements, PHP, Composer, database, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, hosting, third-party extensions, payment and shipping integrations, and custom modules. If an intermediate step, replacement component, or separate infrastructure task is required, it is included in the upgrade plan rather than discovered at production launch.

Magento 2.4.9 is the current minor release. Review the official Magento Open Source 2.4.9 release notes, Adobe Commerce 2.4.9 release notes, and system requirements with the project team before finalizing the target.

What the Magento 2 Version Upgrade Service Can Cover

1. Technical Audit and Upgrade Planning

We begin by identifying the exact source version, edition, installed patches, deployment model, hosting environment, software dependencies, store views, extensions, themes, custom modules, APIs, integrations, and data volume. We also review known business-critical flows such as search, customer accounts, checkout, payment, shipping, tax, promotions, order management, and administrative operations.

The resulting plan defines the target release, upgrade method, compatibility work, data requirements, staging process, testing coverage, ownership boundaries, cutover sequence, rollback conditions, and expected timeline. This prevents a Magento version upgrade from becoming an uncontrolled production experiment.

2. Backup, Staging, and Rollback Preparation

Upgrade work is performed away from the live storefront. The agreed preparation can include application and database backups, a staging or development environment, version control review, deployment preparation, and a rollback plan. The source store remains available during most of the project, while final data synchronization and launch activities are scheduled for a controlled cutover window.

We do not describe every project as zero downtime. Actual downtime depends on store architecture, data-change volume, integrations, infrastructure, deployment method, and the final synchronization plan. The objective is to minimize business disruption without making a guarantee that the implementation cannot support.

3. Magento Core, Composer, and Platform Dependencies

For a technical Magento 2 upgrade, the team updates the Magento application and required Composer packages according to the approved target. We review dependency conflicts and align the environment with the supported PHP, database, search, caching, queue, and related software requirements for that release.

Project-specific work may include database schema and data updates, configuration changes, indexers, cron, cache, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, web-server configuration, and deployment tooling. The exact infrastructure responsibilities are confirmed during assessment, especially when hosting or DevOps access is managed by another provider.

4. Extensions, Themes, and Custom Modules

Third-party and custom components are reviewed for compatibility with the target Magento version. Where supported updates are available, we can update and configure them. Where an extension or module is no longer maintained, the project may require a replacement, refactoring, redevelopment, or removal.

Theme work follows the same principle. An existing compatible theme may need targeted fixes, while an outdated or heavily customized frontend may require broader redevelopment. LitExtension can include custom-store work in the approved scope so catalog, navigation, customer, checkout, and content experiences continue to meet the merchant’s requirements after the upgrade.

5. APIs, Payments, Shipping, and Business Integrations

Magento stores rarely operate alone. We review the integrations identified for the project, which may include payment gateways, shipping carriers, ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, POS, marketplaces, tax services, analytics, marketing tools, identity providers, and custom APIs.

Compatibility work can include configuration updates, authentication changes, API adjustments, event or webhook handling, and validation of critical data exchanges. Third-party vendor access, licensing, unsupported systems, and external-provider changes are documented because they can affect both scope and timeline.

6. Magento Data Migration and Relationship Validation

Technical upgrades and store rebuilds must preserve the business records that the new store still needs. LitExtension can migrate supported products, categories, attributes, customers, addresses, orders, invoices, credit memos, shipments, coupons, CMS content, reviews, store views, languages, currencies, and related records according to the confirmed data scope.

We map source fields to the target structures and validate important relationships, such as configurable products and variants, products and categories, customers and orders, orders and transaction records, and content across store views. Custom fields or extension-generated data are assessed separately because their storage and target representation vary by implementation.

For stores that continue trading during the project, eligible Re-Migration, Recent Data Migration, or Smart Update can help correct migration issues or capture supported records created or updated before launch.

7. SEO and URL Continuity

The Magento upgrade plan can include supported URL keys, URL rewrites, meta titles, meta descriptions, canonical-related data, product and category relationships, and 301 redirects. We also review whether theme, navigation, content, internal linking, or URL-structure changes require additional SEO implementation work.

No migration or development provider can guarantee unchanged search rankings. SEO continuity depends on the final URL map, redirect implementation, rendered content, internal links, performance, crawlability, indexation, structured data, and post-launch monitoring. LitExtension focuses on preserving supported SEO data and reducing avoidable changes during the transition.

8. Functional Testing, Data Validation, and Launch

Testing is based on the approved project scope and can cover storefront and Admin functionality, customer accounts, catalog and search, checkout, payments, shipping, tax, promotions, order processing, extensions, integrations, custom features, responsive behavior, and migrated data. Automated checks and manual review are used where appropriate, followed by merchant UAT for business-specific acceptance.

Before launch, the project team reviews outstanding issues, deployment steps, content or configuration freezes, recent-data synchronization, maintenance requirements, DNS or traffic changes where applicable, rollback conditions, and post-launch checks. Production deployment can be handled by LitExtension when included in the agreed scope or coordinated with the merchant’s hosting and development teams.

Magento 1 to Magento 2 Requires a Full Store Migration

A Magento 1 store cannot be converted into Magento 2 through a routine Composer update. The architectures, themes, extensions, database structures, APIs, and custom code differ significantly. LitExtension therefore treats Magento 1 to Magento 2 as a platform migration and rebuild.

The project can combine business-data migration with Magento 2 target-store development. Products, categories, customers, orders, attributes, CMS content, reviews, and supported SEO data are mapped to Magento 2, while themes, extensions, integrations, and custom functionality are rebuilt, replaced, or reconfigured according to the approved requirements.

How Long Does a Magento Upgrade Take?

There is no reliable universal duration for a Magento version upgrade. A lightly customized Magento 2 store with maintained extensions may require far less work than a multi-store Adobe Commerce implementation with custom checkout logic, ERP integrations, legacy modules, and infrastructure changes.

The estimate is based on the source and target versions, edition, codebase condition, extension and module count, frontend scope, integrations, hosting requirements, data volume, test coverage, stakeholder availability, and launch constraints. After the assessment, LitExtension provides a scope-based timeline with milestones for preparation, implementation, testing, UAT, cutover, and post-launch review.

What Determines Magento Upgrade Service Cost?

Magento upgrade pricing should reflect technical complexity rather than entity count alone. Cost factors include the version gap, infrastructure changes, dependency conflicts, third-party extensions, custom modules, theme work, integrations, data migration, SEO requirements, testing coverage, deployment responsibilities, and required support.

LitExtension reviews these elements before providing a project-specific estimate. Data volume remains relevant when substantial migration, validation, or recent-data synchronization is required, but it is only one part of the total Magento upgrade scope.

When Is a Clean-Store Rebuild the Better Choice?

An in-place Magento 2 version upgrade is not automatically the best option. A clean target may be preferable when the current store has accumulated unsupported extensions, difficult dependency conflicts, outdated custom code, unnecessary records, major frontend changes, or a planned redesign.

In a clean-store project, we identify the business data and functionality that should be retained, prepare the target environment, migrate the selected records, and rebuild or replace the approved components. This approach can create a more maintainable foundation, but it requires a clear implementation scope and should not be presented as data migration alone.

Plan Your Magento Upgrade With LitExtension

A successful Magento 2 upgrade service must coordinate application changes, infrastructure, custom functionality, integrations, data, SEO, testing, and launch. LitExtension can bring these workstreams together under a project scope tailored to your current store and target release.

Talk to our Magento upgrade team about your source version, target version, extensions, custom modules, integrations, hosting environment, data volume, and preferred launch window. We will review the requirements and recommend a technical upgrade, clean-store rebuild, or Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration path.

Frequently Asked Questions About Magento Upgrades

Need to confirm a version path, technical dependency, or custom requirement? Chat with our Magento upgrade team.

What is included in LitExtension’s Magento 2 upgrade service?

The confirmed scope can include a technical audit, backup and staging preparation, Magento core and Composer updates, platform-dependency alignment, extension and theme compatibility, custom module or integration work, data migration, functional and regression testing, cutover planning, production deployment, and post-launch review.

Deliverables vary by store, so we document responsibilities, exclusions, timeline, and acceptance requirements after assessing the source version, target release, infrastructure, codebase, integrations, and data.

Do you upgrade Magento in place or build a new store?

We can support either approach. A maintainable Magento 2 store may be upgraded technically in a staging environment, while a store with extensive legacy code, unsupported extensions, or a planned redesign may be better suited to a clean-store rebuild.

Magento 1 to Magento 2 is always treated as a platform migration and rebuild rather than a routine in-place version update.

Can I upgrade directly from my current Magento version to Magento 2.4.9?

Often, but the correct path depends on the exact source version, edition, patches, Composer dependencies, PHP and database versions, search engine, extensions, custom modules, and hosting environment.

We assess the store before confirming whether it can move directly to Magento 2.4.9, requires an intermediate step, or should be rebuilt on a fresh target.

Do you handle Composer, PHP, database, OpenSearch, cron, and server requirements?

Yes, these technical requirements can be included in the Magento version upgrade scope. We review Magento core and Composer packages together with PHP, database, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, indexers, cron, cache, web-server, and deployment requirements.

When infrastructure is controlled by a hosting or DevOps provider, we define which tasks LitExtension handles and which require coordination with that provider.

Do you upgrade Magento themes, extensions, and custom modules?

Yes, compatibility work can be included after assessment. We update and configure supported components, fix approved compatibility issues, and identify anything that must be replaced, refactored, redeveloped, or removed.

The scope depends on source-code access, vendor support, licensing, the quality of the existing implementation, and the requirements for the target Magento release.

Can you preserve custom integrations and store functionality?

We can review and include approved integrations and custom functionality, such as payment, shipping, ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, tax, marketplace, identity, analytics, and custom API connections.

We first document the business-critical workflows and external dependencies, then define the compatibility, redevelopment, configuration, and testing work needed for the target store.

Can my Magento store remain live during the upgrade?

The live store can normally remain available while audit, development, migration, and testing take place in a separate environment. A controlled maintenance or cutover window may still be required for final synchronization and production deployment.

We plan around new orders and content changes, but actual downtime depends on the store architecture, data volume, integrations, infrastructure, and deployment method.

Do you use staging, backups, and a rollback plan?

These are standard planning considerations for a professional Magento upgrade. The agreed project can include application and database backups, a staging environment, version-control and deployment preparation, launch checkpoints, and rollback conditions.

The exact backup and rollback responsibilities are confirmed with the merchant, hosting provider, and any other technical teams before production changes begin.

How long does a Magento upgrade with LitExtension take?

The timeline depends on the source and target versions, edition, codebase condition, extensions, custom modules, theme work, integrations, infrastructure, data volume, testing coverage, and launch requirements.

We provide a scope-based estimate after assessment, with milestones for preparation, implementation, QA, merchant UAT, cutover, and post-launch review.

How much does a Magento 2 upgrade service cost?

Pricing is based on technical complexity and project responsibility, including the version gap, dependency and infrastructure changes, extensions, custom code, theme work, integrations, data migration, testing, and deployment.

Entity counts affect data-migration work but do not represent the entire upgrade cost. Chat with our team for a project-specific assessment and estimate.

Will I lose data during the Magento upgrade?

Our process is designed to protect the source and validate the target, but no responsible provider should promise an outcome without reviewing the store. We use backups, staging, defined data scope, mapping, entity-count checks, relationship validation, and launch controls based on the project.

Unsupported, inconsistent, encrypted, or extension-generated records are identified for additional handling before the production cutover.

What Magento data can be migrated or validated?

Supported scope can include products, categories, attributes, customers, addresses, orders, invoices, credit memos, shipments, coupons, CMS content, reviews, store views, languages, currencies, tax-related data, URLs, and metadata.

Available fields depend on the version pair, edition, extensions, custom structures, and how each record must be represented in the target store.

Can LitExtension migrate Magento customer passwords?

Compatible customer password hashes can be migrated for supported Magento version pairs. Custom authentication, identity providers, hash differences, or security requirements may require additional handling or a password-reset strategy.

We confirm the appropriate approach after reviewing the source authentication setup and target requirements.

Can you upgrade Magento 1 or an older Magento 2 store?

Yes. Older Magento 2 stores can be assessed for a technical version upgrade or clean-store rebuild. Magento 1 to Magento 2 is handled as a complete platform migration because the architectures, themes, extensions, database structures, and custom code differ.

For either route, we define the technical, custom-development, data, testing, and launch scope before work begins.

How do you protect SEO during a Magento upgrade?

The project can preserve supported URL keys, URL rewrites, meta titles, meta descriptions, content, and entity relationships, with 301 redirects for approved URL changes. We also review crawlability and URL continuity within the agreed SEO scope.

Search rankings cannot be guaranteed because the final outcome also depends on content, internal links, performance, rendering, structured data, indexation, and post-launch monitoring.

What support is available after the upgraded store launches?

LitExtension provides support for migration-related issues according to the applicable service terms, including 30 days of support after completion for eligible projects. Re-Migration, Recent Data Migration, or Smart Update may be available for supported data needs.

Support for custom development, infrastructure, extensions, integrations, or ongoing maintenance is defined separately in the approved project scope.
