OpenCart to PrestaShop Migration

Our client is a France-based retailer specializing in custom and ready-made rugs, mats, and floor coverings for both residential and commercial spaces. Their online store allows customers to personalize materials, sizes, and colors – a key part of their brand identity.

Over time, managing their custom product options on OpenCart became increasingly difficult. Adding or updating size, color, and material variations required more technical work than their team could comfortably handle, and the setup no longer offered the flexibility they needed. They began looking for a platform that could better support personalized offerings – one that was flexible, scalable, and efficient for complex product configurations.

For this project, the client needed more than just a standard data migration. Their specific requirements included:

• Migrate all core store data, including products, customers, order history, and categories from OpenCart to PrestaShop.
• Preserve multiple product types, such as standard items, logo-branded products, and enquiry-based products, along with all related product variants.

The main challenge was migrating complex product combinations. Many items had multiple customizable options – like size, material, and logo – resulting in a large number of unique variants that had to be preserved accurately.

To address the combination challenge, our technical team first analyzed the structure of all customizable products, including those managed through third-party plugins. We then developed custom scripts to extract and reformat the product variants accurately, ensuring every combination of size, material, color, and logo was preserved correctly in PrestaShop.
