GrazeCart to Shopify Migration

Our client is a U.S.-based organic food business that specializes in farm-to-table products such as grass-fed meat, raw dairy, and other natural goods. For years, they’ve built a strong online presence through subscription and local delivery services.

Over time, they outgrew GrazeCart’s basic design & customization tools, seeking a storefront that could evolve with their brand – modern, flexible, and easy to customize. Shopify extensive app ecosystem enabled new creative possibilities and a smoother customer experience.

After exploring several migration options, the client decided to partner with LitExtension. Since GrazeCart is a niche platform with limited migration support, they needed an experienced team. With over a decade of expertise handling complex data from uncommon platforms, LitExtension gave them full confidence in a smooth, accurate transfer.

For this project, the client wanted a complete and disruption-free migration from GrazeCart to Shopify. Their key requirements included:

• Migrate all essential store data – including products, customers, and order history.
• Transfer product images and category information to preserve the original catalog structure and visual consistency.
• Create 301 redirects from the old URLs to the new Shopify store to maintain SEO rankings and ensure customers could access familiar links without errors.

Because GrazeCart is a niche platform, it lacks standardized export formats and doesn’t provide structured tools to extract data cleanly. Most information is stored in custom tables, inconsistent structures, or mixed-value fields, so nothing aligns naturally with Shopify’s data model.

The challenge became even greater due to the volume and diversity of the data. Products, variants, delivery rules, customer profiles, subscriptions, and recurring orders were all formatted differently, with many fields embedded in non-uniform layouts. This created a highly fragmented dataset that required extensive interpretation before it could even be understood.

Given the complexity of the migration, our team implemented LitExtension’s All-in-One Migration Service, assigning a dedicated Personal Assistant (PA) to run the project from start to end.

The process began with a thorough analysis of GrazeCart’s database structure, which differs significantly from Shopify’s standardized format. With no existing tools & scripts for this platform, our PA created custom code to carefully extract all store data. The extracted data was then reformatted and mapped precisely to fit Shopify’s schema, ensuring no information was lost or misaligned.

Throughout the migration, the PA provided the client with daily updates, outlining progress, verifying sample results, and confirming data accuracy. This consistent communication helped the client stay fully informed and confident during the process, even with the project’s higher complexity and extended timeline.

After completing a demo migration and resolving all issues based on the client’s feedback, we proceeded to the Full Migration. A final QA check followed, confirming correct item counts, clean field mapping, and complete customer and order records. Every piece of data was successfully transferred to the new Shopify store, ready for launch without disruption.
