About Our Client
Our client is a leading provider in the medical supply industry, with over 40 years of experience in delivering high-quality products and services tailored to meet critical healthcare needs. Their extensive range of medical solutions is trusted by healthcare professionals globally, and their commitment to excellence ensures that every order, especially those with time-sensitive demands, is fulfilled with the utmost care and precision.
Our client needed a more flexible and scalable platform to support their growing product catalog and complex customer needs. Shift4Shop limited their ability to enhance user experience and streamline operations. This prompted them to migrate to BigCommerce for its robust features and greater scalability.
Our Client’s Requirements
The client tasked the LitExtension team with migrating all essential data from Shift4Shop to BigCommerce. This included products, orders, customers, categories, manufacturers, taxes, and CMS pages. In addition to migrating default data, they also requested several Additional Options to ensure a seamless transition:
- Migrating categories and product SEO URLs;
- Creating 301 redirects on the target store after migration;
- Preserving order IDs on the target store;
- Stripping HTML from category and product names and descriptions.
The Challenges
The client’s product catalog contained GTIN, MNP, and barcode information, which necessitated a custom migration process to ensure this specialized data was accurately transferred to the new platform. Due to the complexity of this request, the LitExtension team required additional time to complete the project, ensuring everything was migrated seamlessly.
Our Solution
To fulfill the client’s requirements, the LitExtension expert performed a comprehensive migration of the mentioned default data. Then, we developed a specialized command to migrate GTIN, MNP, and barcode information, following the client’s custom request. This custom solution allowed us to accurately transfer the product-specific data, despite the structural differences between the two platforms.
By ensuring the proper mapping and preservation of these key data points, we were able to maintain the integrity of the client’s product catalog during migration.
