How to Switch from Weebly to Squarespace

Moving from Weebly to Squarespace provides access to a more modern design system and additional site management features. However, the transition requires careful planning, as Weebly does not offer direct export tools for many types of content. • Organize Pages: Recreate your page structure (Home, About, Services, Blog, Contact, Store, etc.) in the Pages panel. Keep layouts simple for now, your priority is to have a space ready to receive imported content.
• Add Features: Use Squarespace’s built-in blocks for forms, galleries, or e-commerce tools to replicate key elements from your Weebly site.
• Preview Responsiveness: Always check mobile previews, as Squarespace ensures design consistency across devices.

Although the setup is important, focus first on preparing a basic framework. Only after the migration process is complete should you invest time in perfecting your Squarespace design.

Step 2: Export Data from Weebly

Weebly does not provide a full one-click site export. Instead, you’ll need to use the available export features for specific data types. Anything outside of these features will require manual work.

Export Product Data from Weebly

To export products to CSV file on Weebly:

• In the Weebly admin panel, open the Items > Item Library menu.
• Hover over the “…” icon at the top right of the page.
• Click Export Items.
• Wait for a few minutes, and a CSV file containing all product information will be downloaded to your device.

Export Order Data from Weebly

To export orders to CSV file on Weebly:

• Go to Store > Orders > Export Orders from your admin panel.
• Choose a time frame from among the following options: All orders / Orders since you last did an export / Orders within a specific date range
• Select the CSV file format for the data.
• Click Export, and you’ll receive an email with a link to download the file.

Note: Blog Posts, Pages, and Media Files all require manual copy-paste/download & upload when transferring from Weebly to Squarespace.

Step 3: Import Data into Squarespace

Since Squarespace does not directly support importing data from Weebly, you will need to use a CSV file. However, the CSV exported from Weebly cannot be uploaded as-is. An additional step is required to adjust and reformat the file so that it aligns with Squarespace’s import requirements.

To import Weebly products into Squarespace via a CSV file, follow these steps:

• In the Squarespace Products panel, click Import, then select Download CSV template.
• Use the downloaded Squarespace CSV template to manually transfer the product information from your Weebly CSV file.
• Review and adjust the data to ensure it meets Squarespace’s formatting requirements.
• Return to the Products panel, click Import in the top-right corner, and drag and drop the completed CSV file into the Upload Squarespace CSV box.
• Click Save to complete the import.

Note: If the import fails, copy all the data from the CSV file, paste it into a new spreadsheet, and then re-upload the new CSV file. This resolves most issues. If the problem persists, open the CSV in a spreadsheet program to check for unsupported formatting. Common issues include: Bulleted lists, Hyperlinks, or Nonstandard characters.

For Orders, Squarespace does not currently support importing orders via CSV or third-party files. Orders can only be created directly through your Squarespace store when a customer makes a purchase, or entered manually one by one in the Orders panel.

Step 4: Move Your Domain from Weebly to Squarespace

If your domain is registered with Weebly, you can transfer it directly to Squarespace or connect it while keeping the registration with your current provider.

Option 1: Transfer your domain to Squarespace

• Log in to your Weebly account and unlock your domain.
• Retrieve the authorization (EPP) code.
• In Squarespace, go to Domains → Use a domain I own → Transfer to Squarespace and enter the code.
• Complete the transfer by following the prompts and paying the transfer fee.

Option 2: Connect your domain to Squarespace

• Log in to Weebly’s DNS settings.
• Update the A and CNAME records according to Squarespace’s requirements.
• Save your changes and allow up to 72 hours for DNS propagation.

Transferring your domain ensures that billing and management are handled within Squarespace, while connecting your domain lets you keep it registered with Weebly (or another provider) but still point it to your Squarespace site.

Step 5: Review and Cancel Weebly Service

Once your Squarespace site is fully set up and your domain is connected or transferred, take time to review everything to ensure a smooth transition. Check that your products, content, and design display correctly, and verify that your domain points to your new Squarespace website.

After confirming that your Squarespace site is live and functioning as expected, you can cancel your Weebly services to avoid paying for two platforms:

• Log in to your Weebly account, navigate to the account or billing section, and cancel your subscription, domain hosting (if transferred), and any additional services you no longer need.

Be sure to download or back up any remaining data from Weebly before cancellation, as access to your site and files may no longer be available once the account is closed.
