About Our Client
Our client is a U.S.-based manufacturer and retailer specializing in high-quality uniforms for the hospitality industry. Their store serves restaurants, hotels, catering businesses and culinary schools, offering style browsing, color customization and bulk ordering in one place.
As their B2B needs grew, Shopify started to feel limiting, especially for bulk ordering and products with many size, color and fabric combinations. Magento, meanwhile, offered stronger native tools for B2B selling, unlimited variants and more flexible product management. It became a much better fit for the level of complexity they needed moving forward.
After reviewing several providers, they chose LitExtension for our proven experience with Magento migrations and the clear guidance we provided from the beginning. The positive feedback from other merchants also reassured them that their data would be handled safely. With our team managing the entire process, they felt confident the transition would be accurate and disruption-free.
Our Client’s Requirements
For this project, the client requested the following:
- Migrate all essential store data from Shopify to Magento, including products, variants, customers, orders and categories.
- Rebuild Shopify variants as Magento configurable products while keeping attributes like size, color and fabric intact.
- Preserve SEO performance by migrating product and category URLs, metadata and search-relevant fields.
- Run additional tasks such as creating redirects and cleaning existing data to ensure a smooth transition
The Challenges
The only challenge in this project was handling the store’s custom fields. The client used several extra product attributes in Shopify – such as fabric type, fit, sleeve length and other specifications – that did not match Magento’s default structure. These fields needed to be recreated as Magento attributes and assigned properly to configurable products.
Our Solution
To address the differences between Shopify and Magento attribute structures, our team began by reviewing all extra product fields in the client’s catalog. We then recreated the required fields in Magento – such as fabric type, fit and sleeve length – and mapped them to the appropriate configurable products.
With the mapping finalized, we ran the full migration using our All-in-One Migration Service. The chosen Additional Options – included free of charge – were executed alongside the main migration to ensure every piece of data transferred according to Magento’s structure.
After the transfer finished, we performed a full round of QA testing to confirm that all attributes, variants and product relationships appeared accurately on the new Magento store.
