Plan Your Shopify to Square Migration

Start with the records your business needs after the move: the product catalog and categories, customer profiles, and historical orders. Decide which examples you will use to check the results, including products with variants, discounted items, and orders with several items or different totals.

1. Discuss Your Data and Launch Requirements

Tell our team which Shopify records you need to move and describe the existing Square store. Include your product and variant volume, customer records, order history, and the date you plan to switch stores. Identify custom fields or app-generated records before the work begins.

Our specialists review these requirements with you and agree on the transfer scope. Shopify themes, apps, reviews, coupons, CMS pages, and blogs are not part of this data transfer. Keep copies of content and assets that you will need when preparing the Square storefront.

2. Prepare Store Access and Existing Square Data

Prepare the Shopify and Square access requested by our experts and keep it available through testing and validation. Save source exports or backups and record the data counts you will use for comparison. Your Personal Assistant coordinates access without asking you to configure a self-service migration.

Review records already present in Square before enabling Clear Target Data. The cleanup option applies to the agreed catalog data. It does not delete existing Square orders; discuss any existing or test orders with the team before migration.

3. Map Products, Categories, Customers, and Orders

Our specialists map the selected Shopify data to Square. Product work covers names, SKUs, descriptions, status, prices, inventory settings, dimensions, tags, variants, and images. They also map category names, descriptions, images, and category metadata.

Customer migration covers names, email addresses, and created dates. Order migration covers the fields listed in the data section, including order references, statuses, items, totals, comments, customer details, and billing-address information.

Square’s native order creation timestamp is set by Square and cannot retain the original Shopify creation timestamp. Review the migrated order-date information during the Demo so you understand how historical dates appear in the target.

4. Configure the Additional Options

All applicable Additional Options are included for free with All-in-One Migration. Our experts configure 301 redirects, original order references, description-image transfer, HTML cleanup, and agreed target-catalog cleanup according to your project requirements.

Create 301 Redirects connects old Shopify URLs to the corresponding Square destinations. Preserve Order IDs retains your Shopify order references. The description-image option transfers embedded images in product and category descriptions; it does not include blog migration.

5. Review the Free Demo

Our experts run a Free Demo and share the sample results for your review. Compare product names, SKUs, descriptions, prices, inventory, images, and variants with Shopify. Check category assignments and category metadata, then inspect customer names and emails.

Review sample orders for their references, dates, statuses, items, totals, comments, and customer relationships. Select examples that matter to your daily operations rather than checking only the total record count. Raise any unexpected result before approving the Full Migration.

Migrated Square orders cannot simply be deleted and imported again. Agree on the sample orders and review them carefully with our team before the full transfer. This limitation also needs to be considered when planning later order corrections or reruns.

6. Approve the Full Migration

After Demo approval, our experts perform and monitor the Full Migration. Your Shopify store remains available for customers to browse and place orders while the transfer runs. Your Personal Assistant communicates progress and coordinates the result-review stage.

Keep track of new records and changes made in Shopify during the project. Our team uses the agreed Recent Migration or Smart Update operations to address them before launch, with Square’s order restrictions taken into account when planning the work.

7. Validate the Results and Prepare Square for Launch

Our experts compare the migrated records against the agreed scope and check representative values and relationships. Review your product catalog, images, customer records, and historical orders in Square before accepting the result.

Prepare the storefront and store settings separately. Review navigation, payment methods, shipping, taxes, notifications, and checkout. Test key customer journeys on desktop and mobile before directing customers to the new store.

Review URLs and SEO Before Switching

Check the category meta titles and descriptions transferred during migration and prepare the remaining page metadata in Square. Test important Shopify URLs against their new destinations, including pages that receive search traffic or have external links.

301 redirects help visitors and search engines reach the replacement pages, but they do not guarantee unchanged rankings. Update internal links and review the new store’s navigation and page content as part of launch preparation.
