Joomla to Shopify Migration
Migrate your Joomla site using VirtueMart to Shopify with LitExtension’s All-in-One Migration Service. Our experts transfer products, product categories, customers, orders, coupons, reviews, blog posts, and the supported multilingual product and category content.
Your Personal Assistant coordinates the requirements and review stages. Our specialists map the data, configure the applicable options, and run a Free Demo so you can inspect sample records in Shopify before approving Full Migration. Product reviews require a compatible Shopify review app.
Your Joomla store can continue selling while the transfer runs. Our experts monitor the migration, validate the agreed records, and coordinate remaining data updates and your review before handover.
How Joomla to Shopify Migration Works
Our experts assess your Joomla and VirtueMart data, map the selected records to Shopify, and run a Free Demo. After you approve the sample results, they perform Full Migration and validate the agreed catalog, customers, orders, and content.
Our specialists review products, categories, customers, historical orders, coupons, reviews, articles, and translated catalog content. Your Personal Assistant coordinates source-extension confirmation, Shopify access, the review app, existing target data, and the project scope.
Our experts configure data mapping and applicable options, then migrate sample records to Shopify. Review products and variants, category organization, customer profiles, order relationships, coupons, reviews, articles, and supported translations before approving the full transfer.
Our experts run and monitor Full Migration, compare the agreed records, and investigate migration discrepancies. Your Personal Assistant coordinates your review, remaining data updates, and handover before launch.
Plan Your Joomla to Shopify Migration
Start by confirming which extension holds your Joomla store’s commerce data. The migration scope on this page uses VirtueMart for products, categories, customers, orders, coupons, reviews, and supported catalog translations, alongside Joomla article content. If your site uses HikaShop or another commerce extension, tell our team before the project scope is agreed.
LitExtension’s All-in-One service gives migration setup, mapping, the Free Demo, Full Migration, and result validation to our specialists. Your Personal Assistant coordinates access, requirements, approvals, progress updates, and handover. You review the sample and completed records while our team manages the transfer.
Choose an Approach for the Records You Need
| Approach | Suitable task | Your review work |
|---|---|---|
| Manual export and import | A defined set of records for which you have a suitable import workflow. | Prepare files, map fields, preserve relationships, and check the target results. |
| Separate import or integration tools | Specific data types or an ongoing connection between channels. | Verify actual coverage, existing-record handling, and update behavior for each tool. |
| LitExtension All-in-One Migration | The agreed Joomla and VirtueMart records listed in What Data. | Confirm requirements, review the Demo, approve Full Migration, and check the completed store with our team. |
This service transfers agreed data. It does not convert Joomla templates, VirtueMart extensions, or custom code into Shopify functionality, and it does not establish continuous synchronization between the stores.
1. Define the Catalog, Customers, Orders, and Content
Tell our specialists which products and categories you want to move, how many customer profiles and historical orders you need, and whether coupons, reviews, articles, or translated catalog text are part of the project. Identify data produced by extensions or custom code and provide examples before migration setup.
Select representative records for testing: products with variants and sale prices, orders with several items and different totals, coupons with different validity periods, reviews, and articles containing embedded images. Record the selected counts and keep examples that your team can compare after the transfer.
2. Prepare Access, Backups, and Shopify
Back up Joomla and VirtueMart data and retain copies of the content and assets you need. Prepare your Shopify store and coordinate the access requested by our specialists. Keep it available through the Demo and validation.
Review records already present in Shopify. Agree on which target entities may be cleared and which records must remain before enabling Clear Target Data. Save a target backup and discuss test records or content your team has already edited. For reviews, prepare a compatible Shopify review app with our team before the Demo.
3. Map Products and Product Categories
Our experts map product names, SKUs, short and full descriptions, status, prices, sale prices, quantities, product metadata, weight, width, height, variants, and images. Review representative variants in the Demo rather than assuming that every custom product option or extension field transfers.
Product categories include names, descriptions, images, meta titles, and meta descriptions. The applicable collection option uses VirtueMart categories to create Shopify automated collections and adds product tags for their rules. Check collection membership and navigation separately from category text.
The listed product scope does not include EAN/GTIN, MNP, product-created dates, manufacturer/vendor mapping, tax classes, or Length as Shopify Depth. Category parent relationships and sort order are not included. Prepare any additional requirements separately with our specialists.
4. Map Customers and Historical Orders
Customer profiles include first names, last names, and email addresses. Customer billing and shipping addresses are not listed as shared customer fields for this route. Customer passwords are not transferred; prepare and test Shopify account access separately.
Order data includes IDs, dates, statuses, items, totals, subtotal, discount, tax, shipping price, comments, customer names and emails, and billing and shipping addresses. Preserve Order IDs retains source order references. Check representative order items and their relationships in the Demo; generic order fields do not promise every extension-specific subfield.
5. Map Coupons, Reviews, Articles, and Translations
Coupons include titles, descriptions, codes, uses per coupon, discount amount or percent, and start and end dates. Reviews include creation dates, status, ratings, user names, and comments, with import through a compatible Shopify review app. Check the resulting coupon settings and review presentation in the target.
Joomla articles transfer as blog posts with titles, URLs, content, categories, and thumbnail images. Introductory text and full text form the article body; inspect their combined presentation in sample posts. Article creation dates are not mapped to Shopify publication dates. Blog categories do not create product collections.
Supported multilingual fields include product names and descriptions and category names and descriptions. Agree on language mapping and inspect the translated entries. Other translated fields, CMS pages, manufacturers, and tax entities are outside the listed transfer.
6. Configure the Additional Options
All applicable Additional Options are included for free with All-in-One Migration. Our experts configure redirects, order-ID preservation, HTML cleanup for product and category names, approved target-data cleanup, description images, and Shopify automated collections around the agreed requirements.
Description Images covers images embedded in product and category descriptions and Joomla article content. Thumbnail and additional images are separate fields. Agree on the cleanup scope and retain a backup before target records are removed. Test order references, collection membership, embedded images, and important redirect destinations in the Demo.
7. Review the Free Demo Before Full Migration
Our specialists run a Free Demo and share the target results. Compare product text, SKUs, status, prices, quantities, metadata, dimensions, variants, and images with VirtueMart. Check category details, collection organization, and customer names and emails.
Inspect order references, dates, statuses, items, totals, addresses, and customer relationships. Review coupon values and dates, sample reviews, article formatting and images, and supported translations. Counts alone do not establish correctness; record examples of unexpected results and resolve them with the team before approving Full Migration.
8. Complete Migration and Validate the Store
After Demo approval, our experts perform and monitor Full Migration. Your Joomla store can continue serving customers and accepting orders while the data transfer runs. Your Personal Assistant communicates progress and coordinates the completed-data review.
Our team compares the agreed records and investigates migration discrepancies. Check representative records and counts before accepting the result. Track products, customers, orders, and articles created or changed during the project so remaining updates can be planned before handover.
9. Prepare SEO, Customer Access, and Checkout
Review migrated product and category meta titles and descriptions. Test important 301 redirects from Joomla and VirtueMart pages to Shopify destinations, update internal links, and check navigation. Article publication settings and page metadata need separate preparation. Transferring URLs does not promise identical structures or unchanged search rankings.
Prepare the Shopify design, apps, payment methods, shipping, taxes, notifications, and account access separately. Test browsing, variant selection, cart actions, customer access, and checkout on desktop and mobile before switching customers to the new store.
Estimate Cost, Timing, and Follow-Up Work
Cost depends on selected data volume, complexity, and agreed custom work. Use Estimate Migration Cost for an initial estimate, then discuss the requirements with our team. Applicable Additional Options are included for free with All-in-One Migration.
The schedule includes access preparation, mapping, the Demo and your feedback, Full Migration, validation, and final updates. Eligible Recent Data Migration, Smart Update, and Re-migration services address new, changed, or previously transferred records under the project terms. Agree on these operations with your Personal Assistant; they remain within the supported scope.

Who We Truly Are? Let Our Customer Define!
I am in the process of moving my existing website over to Shopify. As this is my 4th iteration of my website, I knew I didn’t want to do the migration part myself again! Using this service meant that I could concentrate on running my business for a couple of days while the migration was being done for me.
Lotus was phenomenal! She is detailed-oriented and works extremely fast! She helped with the migration from Wix to Shopify in no time. Thank you so much Lotus and everyone at LitExtension!
We migrate with Litextension our shop from shopware to shopify. The team was great to work with. During the process we identified a few issues. But everything was fully resolved in two days. We are satisfied with the work from Litextension.
It was great service from those guys! Verry complex case with very old Woocommerce to new Woocommerce store!
I built our new Shopify site myself but with no developer experience. I really struggled migrating products, customers and order history. It was a bit overwhelming until I found Lit. They helped me set it up and did the contract. Emailed me at every stage and listened to my feedback. I found them on Thursday and by Monday the work was completed.

The team at LitExtension was great to work with, and also showed great patience with my migration needs. We had a large website, with many products and variants and they were able to do everything we needed, even some custom requests. Great people and great company.
Took most of the work off our hands. The team were great and went out of their way to get the migration from J2store to Shopify completed. The time zone differences were slightly difficult but that didn’t stop the work from being completed.
