How Magento 2 Migration Works with LitExtension
LitExtension offers two ways to migrate your store to Magento 2: an automated self-service migration for standard data transfers, or a fully managed All-in-One service for complex projects. Choose the method that fits your store, then follow the guided steps to complete your Magento migration securely.
#1: Link Your Source and Target Carts
Select your current platform as the Source Cart and Magento as the Target Cart. Then enter the required store URLs and follow the setup instructions to connect both stores before the migration begins.
#2: Select Your Data Entities to Migrate
Choose the entities you want to include in your Magento 2 data migration, such as products, categories, customers, orders, manufacturers, reviews, CMS pages, SEO URLs, metadata, and more. Only the selected data will be transferred to your new Magento store.
#3: Start the Magento Migration
Run the full migration to Magento and wait for the chosen data to be transferred. The process runs automatically in the background, so you can step away without business interruption.
#1: Consultation With LitExtension Experts
Our Magento migration experts review your current store setup, data structure, and migration requirements. We help identify custom fields, third-party data, and special handling needs so the project scope is clear before the migration begins.
#2: Data Mapping & Setting By Experts
Set up Magento Store, deploy the necessary apps and create the appropriate environment before migration.
#3: Perform Full Magento Migration
Once everything is ready, LitExtension experts perform the full Magento migration and monitor the process closely. After the transfer is complete, our Magento migration experts check the results to help ensure your selected data is moved securely and accurately.
How LitExtension Experts Perform Magento 2 Migration Services
With LitExtension’s All-in-One migration service, our Magento migration experts manage the technical process for you, from requirement review and data mapping to demo migration, full migration, result testing, and post-migration support. Once we understand your store structure and project requirements, we prepare a clear migration plan and carry out each step for you.
Our Magento 2 data migration service is carried out through the following 7 steps:
- Step 1. Technical consultation
- Step 2. Pre-migration
- Step 3. Demo migration
- Step 4. Perform full migration
- Step 5. Migration results testing
- Step 6. Post-migration
- Step 7. Customer support
Here’s how your journey to Magento unfolds, step by step:
Step 1. Technical consultation
After you contact LitExtension, our team reviews your current store setup, data structure, and migration requirements in detail. This includes checking how your data is exported, whether your store uses custom fields, and whether any information comes from third-party plugins or non-standard database structures.
Our Magento migration experts validate the migration scope upfront and identify any special handling requirements or potential risks before the project begins.
Once the scope is confirmed, we prepare a Service Level Agreement (SLA) that outlines the agreed requirements, responsibilities, timeline, and support terms. After both sides approve the SLA, the Magento migration project officially starts.
Step 2. Pre-migration
Once the project starts, we prepare your Magento store for the incoming data. This may include setting up required extensions, configuring the migration environment, and checking whether the target store is ready to receive the selected entities.
At this stage, our team also customizes data mapping when needed. If your current store uses custom fields, non-standard formats, or data generated by third-party apps, we adjust the migration settings so the data can align with Magento’s structure as accurately as possible.
Some non-native fields, manually created database entries, or third-party app records may require additional custom handling. If extra work or fees are needed, we confirm them with you before proceeding.
Step 3. Demo migration
Once the new Magento store is ready, we run a demo migration with a sample of your selected data. Depending on your migration scope, the sample may include products, categories, customers, orders, attributes, reviews, CMS pages, SEO URLs, and metadata.
This preview helps you review how the migrated data appears and works inside Magento before the full transfer begins. It also allows our team to detect formatting issues, mapping errors, or technical problems early.
After you review and approve the demo results, we proceed with the full Magento migration.
Note: For smaller stores with fewer than 2,000 total entities, this step can be skipped unless you specifically request it.
Step 4. Perform full migration
After you approve the demo results, we launch the full Magento migration. LitExtension experts manage the process from backend configuration to live data synchronization, while our Smart Controller system monitors the migration to detect and help resolve issues as early as possible.
A key advantage of the All-in-One service is that it includes all extra migration options from the Automated package by default. Essential options such as 301 redirects are included to help old URLs point to the correct Magento pages and reduce SEO risks during the transition.
Step 5. Migration results testing
After the migration is complete, our team performs a quality check to verify the migrated data against the agreed scope.
We review selected entities and key data fields such as products, customers, orders, categories, SEO URLs, and metadata for completeness and accuracy. If any issue is found, our team works to correct it so the migrated data matches your original store setup as closely as possible.
Step 6. Post-migration
Even after your Magento store goes live, LitExtension continues to support the transition.Because your old store can remain active during the migration, new orders, updated products, or new customer accounts may be created before the final switch. To help keep your Magento store accurate after launch, we provide post-migration services including:
- Recent Data Migration: Request newly created data within 30 days after migration, as long as the new data is under 5% of the original volume.
- Remigration: Restart the migration if needed, free and unlimited within 30 days.
- Smart Update: Sync updated data from your old store to Magento as often as needed within 90 days at no cost.
Step 7. Customer support
During and after the migration, LitExtension’s support team remains available to help with migration-related questions or issues. We aim to provide responsive support, with replies within 24 hours.
Our support hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 00:00–23:59, and Sunday to Monday, 08:30–23:59, UTC+7, excluding national holidays.
Popular Questions About Magento 2 Store Migration Services
During the migration carried out by LitExtension, your store remains fully operational with no downtime and no impact on its overall performance. In other words, the migration itself will not slow down your server or affect your store speed. However, your website performance depends heavily on the hosting provider you use and the hosting plan you choose. If your Magento store contains a large amount of data such as products, customers, and orders, loading speed may be influenced by your server resources. For that reason, you should check carefully whether your hosting environment meets Magento system requirements.
Yes. LitExtension allows you to transfer reviews to or from Magento. Magento comes with three default rating criteria for products: quality, price, and value. These ratings are shown as an average score on category pages and product detail pages. When you use LitExtension’s automated migration service, product ratings from your Source Store are moved correctly into these three Magento rating fields, so each field will reflect the same score after migration. For instance, if product AAA has a 4-star overall rating on your current store, once it is migrated to Magento, that same product will display a 4-star score for quality, price, and value. Please note that migrated reviews may not be visible on the storefront right away unless their visibility settings are enabled. To display them on the front-end, follow the instructions below:
-
- From the Admin panel, go to Store -> Ratings
- Choose any rating item under quality, price, and value that you would like to display on the storefront
- In the Rating Visibility section, set Visibility In to the appropriate store view where the ratings and reviews should appear. (Press and hold the Ctrl key to select more than one option.)
- Click the Save Rating button to finish.

Yes, it is possible. LitExtension support migration customers password from 50+ eCommerce platform to Magento (Adobe Commerce Migration). Please visit here for free download and to learn how it works.
Yes, LitExtension can migrate CMS pages to
Magento.
However, there are a few specific limitations to note.
Magento’s default CMS pages are not included in the migration. These pages include:
- “no-route” (the 404 page)
- “home”
- “about-magento-demo-store” (the About Us page)
- “customer-service”
- “enable-cookies”
- “privacy-policy-cookie-restriction-mode”
Yes, LitExtension provides the migration of invoices within Magento. It means that you can migrate invoices in Magento 2 migration service.
Yes, LitExtension is able to migrate your attributes successfully.
Please be aware that during migration, LitExtension may automatically add the “src_” prefix to certain attributes and all attribute sets on your Magento store. This usually happens when the option “Clear your target site’s data” is not selected before starting the migration. The purpose of the “src_” prefix is to distinguish the newly migrated attributes from the existing ones on your target store. You can read this instruction for guidance on how to rename your attributes after the migration is completed.
This happens because these figures are recalculated automatically on the Target Store after the migration is completed. Since different Magento versions use different calculation methods for Lifetime Sales, the results shown on the new store may vary. Because of this platform-specific behavior, these values can appear inaccurate after a Magento data migration service.
Yes, it is possible. LitExtension support migration SEO URLs from 80+ eCommerce platform to Magento in order to keep your product’s ranking on Google and ensure that old addresses can continue working normally without 404 error. Please visit here for further details.
Yes, LitExtension can migrate manufacturer images to Magento.
However, Magento’s default manufacturer attribute only stores the manufacturer or vendor name. If you need to transfer extra details such as images, descriptions, or similar data, you will need to install a compatible extension on your store before running the full migration.
Magento uses its own product structure and counting logic. In this system, child products are treated as simple products and counted together with their parent products. Because of that, when you migrate from Magento to another shopping cart with a different product structure, the total number of products on the target store may not match the original count and can be displayed in a different way after Magento migration services.
LitExtension lets you keep your original Order Full IDs during migration when you select the additional option “Preserve order IDs on Target Store.” This helps maintain the same order IDs from your Source Store on the Target Store.
That said, preserving Order IDs in Magento comes with a few platform-specific conditions. LitExtension can migrate Order Full IDs to or from Magento only when the IDs contain digits only, with no letters or special characters, and when the “Preserve order IDs on Target Store” option is enabled.
For example, if an order ID on the Source Store is #17, it can be transferred to the Target Store as #17.
Note: If the Source Store order ID includes characters other than numbers, LitExtension will only migrate the numeric part after the zeros.
For example, #2-100000034 on the Source Store will be migrated as #34 on the Target Store.
