Zen Cart to Shopify Migration
Migrate Zen Cart products, product categories, customers, historical orders, coupons, reviews, CMS pages, and multilingual product/category content to Shopify with LitExtension’s Automated Migration tool.
Connect both stores, choose your data and Additional Options, and run a Free Demo before Full Migration. Compare sample product options, prices, images, collections, customer records, historical orders, and page content with Zen Cart.
Your Zen Cart store can continue selling during transfer. Review completed records and test your Shopify storefront before launch.
How to Migrate from Zen Cart to Shopify
Connect the stores, select data and options, and review a Free Demo. After checking sample records in Shopify, run Full Migration and validate the completed transfer.
Step 1. Connect Zen Cart and Shopify
Create a migration in LitExtension. Select Zen Cart as Source Cart and Shopify as Target Cart, then follow the source connector and Shopify access instructions displayed in the app.
Step 2. Select Data and Additional Options
Choose the records you need and configure redirects, order-ID preservation, Shopify Smart Collections, name cleanup, and description images. Save a target backup before approving cleanup of existing Shopify data.
Step 3. Review the Demo and Run Full Migration
Run a Free Demo and compare sample records with Zen Cart. Resolve discrepancies before Full Migration, then validate completed data, collection membership, customer access, and checkout before launch.
Choose Your Zen Cart to Shopify Migration Method
List the records your business needs after the move: products and categories, customer profiles, historical orders, coupons, reviews, pages, and translated catalog content. Keep representative examples for comparison. A product import and a store-data migration involve different preparation and review work.
| Method | Suitable task | Your responsibilities |
|---|---|---|
| Manual file imports | Defined records with an appropriate Shopify import workflow. | Prepare files, map fields, maintain relationships, and inspect the result. |
| LitExtension Automated Migration | The Zen Cart records listed in What Data. | Connect stores, select data/options, review the Demo, run Full Migration, and validate Shopify. |
| All-in-One Migration | A project you want migration specialists to manage. | Agree on requirements and review results while experts handle mapping, setup, transfer, and validation. |
This page describes Automated Migration. Your team controls setup and review, with support available for migration issues. A product CSV does not transfer the complete customer, historical-order, review, and page scope together.
Prepare Backups and the Target Store
Back up the Zen Cart database, files, and important assets. Record selected entity counts and retain products with options, sale prices, several images, orders with different totals/statuses, coupons, reviews, pages, and translated text for comparison.
Prepare Shopify and review records already present there. Save a target backup before enabling Clear Target Data, identify records that must remain, and decide how to handle test or Demo records before the full transfer.
Plan the Shopify theme, replacement apps, payments, shipping, taxes, notifications, and checkout separately. Data migration does not convert Zen Cart contributions, theme code, checkout customizations, or payment credentials into Shopify functionality.
Step 1. Connect Zen Cart and Shopify
Sign in to the LitExtension app and create a migration. Select Zen Cart as the Source Cart and Shopify as the Target Cart. Enter the required store details and follow the connection instructions for each platform.
Complete the Zen Cart source connector setup requested for your installation. Shopify is hosted and uses the target access workflow shown in the app. Do not attempt to upload an open-source connector into Shopify. Keep the required connections available through transfer and validation.
Resolve connection errors before selecting data. Check the store details and setup, then share the error information with support if you need help. Review custom source contributions and app-generated data before starting the Demo.
Step 2. Select Data and Additional Options
Products and Options
Products include names, SKUs, short/full descriptions, status, regular/special prices, quantities, meta titles/descriptions, weight, variants, thumbnail images, and additional images. Zen Cart Products Model maps to SKU.
Zen Cart attribute settings can change how base prices and option adjustments are displayed. Variants are included as a group, without a promise to reproduce every custom pricing rule, text field, upload field, or contribution-controlled behavior. Compare selections, displayed prices, inventory, images, and cart behavior in the Demo.
Standalone Attributes are not converted into Shopify metafields. Manufacturer is not mapped to Vendor. Product Tax Class, cost, stock-management settings, dimensions, product tags, creation dates, downloadable files/rules, grouped-product associations, and meta keywords are not included.
Use Shopify’s current product-variant guidance when planning complex products. Check the target theme and apps with the combinations your customers buy, rather than expecting every Zen Cart option type to become a native variant.
Categories and Shopify Smart Collections
Category data includes names, descriptions, images, and meta titles/descriptions. Sort order, separate parent fields, and meta keywords are not included. Select Shopify Smart Collections to add product tags and organize the migrated categories.
Inspect collection membership and product assignments in the Demo. Category data and collection organization do not recreate the source menu automatically. Prepare Shopify navigation and test category links before launch.
Customers and Historical Orders
Customer profiles include first names, last names, and emails. Passwords, saved profile addresses, newsletter preferences, and email-marketing status are not included. Historical-order billing/shipping addresses are separate from saved customer-profile addresses.
Prepare Shopify customer accounts before launch. Customers can sign in using the email associated with their profile and a one-time code; source passwords are not required for this sign-in method. Test account access and the intended order history with representative records.
Orders include IDs, dates, statuses, items, subtotal, discounts, taxes, shipping price, total price, notes from customer comments, customer names/emails, and billing/shipping addresses. Order Items and addresses remain groups without additional detail-field promises. Order tags and tracking fields are not included.
Select Preserve Order IDs and compare original Zen Cart references in the Demo. Review historical totals and customer relationships against source orders. Current catalog prices are not the comparison value for an older purchase.
Coupons, Reviews, Pages, and Languages
Coupons include titles, descriptions, codes, customer groups, usage limits, fixed discount amounts, and start/end dates. Coupon creation dates, percentage-discount values, and status are not included. Test representative promotions in Shopify before launch.
Reviews include creation dates, status, ratings, reviewer names, and comments. Import uses a compatible Shopify review app. Reviewer emails, review titles, and separate product identifiers are not included. Check the storefront review display as well as imported records.
CMS pages include titles, URLs, and content from Page HTML Text. Creation dates, authors, handles, and thumbnails are not included. Review page formatting and internal links; the transfer does not convert a Zen Cart template or contribution into Shopify theme code. Blogs are outside this route.
Multilingual content includes product names/descriptions and category names/descriptions. Translated attributes, short descriptions, category metadata, manufacturers, CMS pages, and blogs are not included. Configure the required Shopify languages and inspect the selected text in each language during testing.
Standalone Manufacturers and Taxes are not transferred. Historical order tax and discount amounts do not configure target tax rules or recreate every promotion. Prepare checkout settings separately.
Configure the Six Applicable Options
Use 301 redirects to connect old Zen Cart URLs to relevant Shopify destinations. Preserve Order IDs retains source order references, Shopify Smart Collections organizes migrated categories, and Strip HTML Tags cleans product/category names.
Description Images covers reachable images embedded in product and category descriptions. Review these separately from thumbnails, additional images, and category images. The option does not add blog migration or embedded CMS-page image coverage.
Clear Target Data removes existing records for the entities selected for migration. Save a backup, inspect the cleanup scope, and identify records that must remain before enabling it. Review existing Shopify records with the same care as source records.
Step 3. Review the Demo and Run Full Migration
Run a Free Demo and compare source and target examples. Check products, option selections, prices, quantities, images, metadata, collection membership, customer names/emails, historical orders, coupons, reviews, page content, and translated product/category text.
Matching counts alone do not establish correctness. Save source and target examples for unexpected values, formatting, missing images, or relationships. Resolve discrepancies before approving the full transfer.
Start Full Migration after reviewing the Demo. It runs on LitExtension’s servers, so you can close your browser and return to check progress. Zen Cart can continue accepting orders during transfer. Validate completed records and keep source access/assets available until the agreed review is complete.
Prepare SEO, Checkout, and Final Updates
Test important old product, category, and page URLs against their Shopify destinations. Review metadata, internal links, collection navigation, customer access, payments, shipping, taxes, notifications, and checkout on desktop and mobile. Redirects do not guarantee unchanged search rankings.
Track new and changed source records during the project. Recent Migration transfers new records, Smart Update handles changes, and Re-migration reruns the transfer. These operations are free for 60 days and do not provide continuous synchronization. Review final updates before launch.
Cost and timing depend on selected data volume, options, images, connections, and agreed custom work. Allow time for preparation, Demo review, Full Migration, validation, and target setup. Use Estimate Migration Cost or Schedule a Call to discuss requirements.
Run a Free Demo to inspect your selected Zen Cart records in Shopify before starting Full Migration. Use the estimator to plan the cost for your data and options.

Who We Truly Are? Let Our Customer Define!
I am in the process of moving my existing website over to Shopify. As this is my 4th iteration of my website, I knew I didn’t want to do the migration part myself again! Using this service meant that I could concentrate on running my business for a couple of days while the migration was being done for me.
Lotus was phenomenal! She is detailed-oriented and works extremely fast! She helped with the migration from Wix to Shopify in no time. Thank you so much Lotus and everyone at LitExtension!
We migrate with Litextension our shop from shopware to shopify. The team was great to work with. During the process we identified a few issues. But everything was fully resolved in two days. We are satisfied with the work from Litextension.
It was great service from those guys! Verry complex case with very old Woocommerce to new Woocommerce store!
I built our new Shopify site myself but with no developer experience. I really struggled migrating products, customers and order history. It was a bit overwhelming until I found Lit. They helped me set it up and did the contract. Emailed me at every stage and listened to my feedback. I found them on Thursday and by Monday the work was completed.

The team at LitExtension was great to work with, and also showed great patience with my migration needs. We had a large website, with many products and variants and they were able to do everything we needed, even some custom requests. Great people and great company.
Took most of the work off our hands. The team were great and went out of their way to get the migration from J2store to Shopify completed. The time zone differences were slightly difficult but that didn’t stop the work from being completed.
