Migrate from PrestaShop to OpenCart: A Step-by-Step Guide

To begin the automatic process of moving your online shop from PrestaShop to OpenCart using the LitExtension tool, follow these steps:

• Go to the LitExtension app website to start.
• Create a new account using your email address, or just link your Google account to get inside right away.
• If you have used this service before and have an account, just type in your email and your secret password to sign in.

Step 1: Setup Source Cart & Target Cart

The very first thing you need to do is link the LitExtension system with both PrestaShop and OpenCart. By doing this, the system will be able to see and read the data from both of your store platforms so it can move everything over safely.

When you are looking at the Migration Page on your screen, click the button that says Create New Migration to get started.

1.1. Connect Source Cart (PrestaShop)

Look for the section named Source Cart Setup. Here, you will pick PrestaShop from the drop-down list as your Source Cart (which means your old store). After that, type in the web address of your old store.

Different types of stores need different kinds of details to connect. The system will show you exactly what to do once you pick your store type. There are three main ways to link your shop:

• Install a Connector File if your store is open-source and you have access to its files.
• Give the system your API Keys if your store is hosted by a special platform.
• Upload CSV Data Files if your store stopped working, if you are worried about keeping things super safe, if you have computer problems, or if you use a cloud server.

1.2. Connect Target (OpenCart)

Next, look at the Target Cart Setup part. Choose OpenCart from the drop-down list to be your Target Cart (which means your brand new store). Then, type in the web address for this new store.

You will do the exact same things you just did for your old store. Follow the steps to connect the LitExtension tool to your new OpenCart store using a Connector file, an API key, or your CSV data files.

Step 2: Choose What to Migrate from PrestaShop to OpenCart

Now that your old PrestaShop store and your new OpenCart store are connected to the tool, the next thing to do is pick out exactly what pieces of data you want to bring over.

You can also turn on some extra helper settings to make your new OpenCart store run better and show up higher on search engines like Google.

Select Data to Migrate

In the section called Entities To Migrate, you need to check the boxes for the things you want to copy over. You can pick things like:

• Products;
• Customers;
• Orders;
• And many other things.

If you want to make it super easy and move absolutely everything, just click the box that says Select All.

Select Additional Options

Once you know what data you are moving, you can look at the Additional Options section to make some extra choices. Here are some things people pick a lot:

• Clear data on the new store before moving: This choice lets you erase the current data on your new store before the new data arrives. It cleans up the space so that your old and new data do not mix up and create annoying copies of the same thing.
• Keep the exact same ID numbers for items, buyers, and purchases: If you pick this, the special numbers used to track your items, buyers, and purchases will stay exactly the same in your new store. This choice is very important because it keeps all the links between your data working right after the move. It also makes it super easy for you to manage your store later.
• Remove HTML code tags from item names and groups: The names of items and groups in your old store might have hidden web code attached to them. Sometimes this code is messed up, or your brand new store simply does not need it to look good. This choice cleans those up.

Step 3: Start Full PrestaShop to OpenCart Migration

After you have picked all the data you want to send to OpenCart and you have chosen your additional options, you are ready to keep going with the Full Migration.

What to Do After Moving from PrestaShop to OpenCart

The very last step you need to take is to carefully look over the final results of your move from PrestaShop to OpenCart:

As soon as the computer system shows you a screen saying “Full Migration Is Completed”, you should go look at your results right away. Checking your data makes sure that every single piece of information made it safely to your brand new OpenCart store without getting lost.

• The different sizes or colors of your items.
• The short descriptions meant for search engines.

After you are done checking the front part of your store that customers see, log into the admin part of your OpenCart store where you control everything. Look around back there to make completely sure that all the details about your customers and the lists of things they bought in the past are completely correct and not missing anything.
