Choose Your Volusion to OpenCart Migration Method

Start with the records your business needs in OpenCart. A catalog import covers a different task from moving customer profiles, historical orders, coupon rules, and reviews. List the data you need and the checks your team will perform before choosing a method.

Automated Migration is the primary workflow for this route. If your store depends on custom fields or specialized product behavior, provide examples to LitExtension before starting. The record transfer does not convert Volusion design or integrations into OpenCart functionality.

Prepare Source Records and OpenCart

Back up the source records and assets you need. Prepare OpenCart and record counts for the selected products, categories, customers, orders, manufacturers, taxes, coupons, and reviews. Keep representative source examples for the Demo and completed-data comparison.

Include products with several images and attributes, orders with different totals, coupons with usage limits, and reviews with different ratings. Identify any records already present in OpenCart and decide which must remain.

Prepare the OpenCart theme, replacement extensions, payments, shipping, taxes, and notifications separately. Migrating tax records does not complete your checkout configuration. Keep storefront and operational testing on the launch checklist.

Connect Volusion and OpenCart

Sign in to the LitExtension app and create a migration. Select Volusion as the Source Cart and OpenCart as the Target Cart, then enter the required store details.

Follow the connection instructions displayed for each platform and complete the checks before selecting data. If a connection fails, review the store details and setup or contact support with the error information. Keep the required access available throughout the transfer and result review.

Select Products and Categories

Product data includes names, SKUs, short and full descriptions, status, manufacturer, price, quantity, stock-management settings, meta titles and descriptions, weight, tags, attributes, thumbnails, and additional images. Review product status, stock settings, image presentation, and attribute values in the Demo.

Categories include names, descriptions, sort order, images, meta titles, and meta descriptions. Check the catalog organization and target navigation separately. Category parent and hidden-status fields are not included.

Volusion variants are not transferred as OpenCart Options in this migration. Attributes are included as a product group; this does not establish variant-to-option support. Special prices, dimensions, product creation dates, and meta keywords are also outside the listed transfer. Discuss required selectable combinations or custom pricing before committing to the full move.

Select Customers and Historical Orders

Customer profiles include first names, last names, emails, and billing addresses. Customer passwords, usernames, newsletter preferences, and separate customer shipping addresses are not included. Prepare and test the OpenCart account-access process before launch.

Orders include IDs, dates, statuses, items, subtotal, discount, tax, shipping price, total price, comments, customer names and emails, and billing and shipping addresses. Select Preserve Order IDs if your team needs the original order references in OpenCart.

Order Items and order addresses are transferred as groups. Their presence does not promise every detailed target subfield. Volusion order tags are not included. Review representative orders and their customer relationships in the Demo.

Select Manufacturers, Taxes, Coupons, and Reviews

Manufacturers include names. Tax records include tax-class names and tax-rate country and rate values. Review the target records and separately test how OpenCart calculates taxes for your checkout requirements.

Coupons include codes, coupon dates, uses per coupon and customer, discount amounts, and start and end dates. Coupon names, descriptions, customer groups, percentage discounts, status, and minimum or maximum spend are not included. Check migrated coupon values and prepare any remaining rules before launch.

Reviews include creation dates, statuses, ratings, and comments. Author names and emails, customer IDs, and review titles are not transferred. Inspect review presentation in OpenCart during the Demo. CMS pages, blogs, and multilingual content are not included; prepare required site content separately.

Configure Additional Options

Create 301 Redirects connects old Volusion URLs to their OpenCart destinations. Preserve Order IDs retains the source order references. Strip HTML Tags removes markup from product and category names.

Description Images transfers embedded images in product and category descriptions. Check these separately from product thumbnails, additional images, and category images. Blog description images are not covered because blogs are outside this migration.

Clear Target Data removes existing OpenCart records for the migration entities you select. Agree on the cleanup scope, save a backup, and identify records that must remain before enabling it. Review your selections before running the Demo.

Review the Free Demo

Run a Free Demo and open the sample records in OpenCart. Compare product names, SKUs, descriptions, status, manufacturer, prices, stock settings, metadata, weight, tags, attributes, and images with Volusion. Inspect category text, sort order, images, metadata, and catalog organization.

Check customer names, emails, and billing addresses. Compare representative orders for references, dates, statuses, items, totals, comments, addresses, and customer relationships. Inspect manufacturer names, tax values, coupon limits and dates, and review ratings and comments.

Matching counts alone do not confirm correctness. Save source and target examples when reporting an unexpected result so support can investigate the record and migration setting. Resolve discrepancies before starting Full Migration.

Run Full Migration and Validate OpenCart

After Demo review, start Full Migration. The transfer runs on LitExtension’s servers, so you can close your browser and return to check progress. Your Volusion store can continue serving customers and accepting orders while the transfer runs.

When it finishes, compare counts and representative records for all selected entities. Automated Migration leaves connection, configuration, and result validation with your team, with support available for migration issues. Complete the record review before directing customers to OpenCart.

Prepare SEO and Checkout for Launch

Review product and category meta titles and descriptions. Test important redirects, update internal links, and inspect the new navigation. A migration does not guarantee identical URL structures or unchanged search rankings.

Prepare pages and blog content separately. Test account access, browsing, product selection, cart actions, coupon behavior, payments, shipping, taxes, and checkout on desktop and mobile. Finish these checks before switching the domain.

Handle New Data, Cost, and Timing

Track records created or changed in Volusion during the project. Recent Migration transfers new records, Smart Update handles changes to existing data, and Re-migration reruns the transfer. LitExtension provides these operations free for 60 days. Review the final update before completing the store transition.
