Basically, you have two options on types of eCommerce platforms which are open-source and hosted.
Open-source or self-hosted carts (example: Magento, WooCommerce, OpenCart, Prestashop,…) refer to shopping carts that are free to install, download, and customize. All the expenses will come down to hosting service, a domain name and a couple of extensions to extend your site’s possibilities.
On the other hand, hosted carts (example: Shopify, BigCommerce, WIX,…) are defined as all-in-one eCommerce platforms whose everything is already built for you. All you need to do is to register, pay a monthly subscription, choose your store theme and start selling.
Both types of this eCommerce platform have their own strengths and weaknesses. To decide whether an Open-source or hosted platform is best for you, please find out here.
