New Target Store Setup

Before transferring the data, creating a new store on the target eCommerce platform and getting some basic setup for it is a must. In this section, we will suggest some platforms for you and show you how to create a store on that platform.

Choose Your Next Destination

There exist hundreds of platforms out there, hence, you should seriously consider their features based on your needs to go for the most suitable eCommerce solution

Basically, you have two options on types of eCommerce platforms which are open-source and hosted.

Open-source or self-hosted carts (example: Magento, WooCommerce, OpenCart, Prestashop,…) refer to shopping carts that are free to install, download, and customize. All the expenses will come down to hosting service, a domain name and a couple of extensions to extend your site’s possibilities.

On the other hand, hosted carts (example: Shopify, BigCommerce, WIX,…) are defined as all-in-one eCommerce platforms whose everything is already built for you. All you need to do is to register, pay a monthly subscription, choose your store theme and start selling.

Both types of this eCommerce platform have their own strengths and weaknesses. To decide whether an Open-source or hosted platform is best for you, please find out here.

Set Up Your Target Cart

1. Set up Open-source Carts

For open-source users, the process to install a Target Store is a bit more complicated. Each cart will have its own recommended way to install along with some special requirements. However, this is generally what you have to do:

  • Choose hosting: Before installing a platform, you will have to get a host for your website, which is where the data will be stored. It is advisable to choose a proper hosting service like Cloudways to avoid hassles later on.
  • Download the package: The open-source package will be available on the main website of the eCommerce platform.
  • Upload to your server: You will need FTP access to unzip the package and upload it to the web root.
  • Create a database: This is the place where you store your data, including products, customers, orders and more.
  • Install and configure: Access the root directory and install the shopping cart with the help of the installation wizard. After some basic configuration, your Target Store will be ready for migration.

Below are our tutorials for installing some shopping carts. Please follow the instructions to create a new store.

2. Set up Hosted Carts

If you go for a SaaS shopping cart, all you need to do is register an account before choosing a plan and a payment method.
