Cegid to Shopify Migration

This project focused on migrating historical order data from Cegid – a retail ERP system – to Shopify for a UK-based family business. The scope centered on transferring more than 28,000 historical orders and ensuring each one was correctly linked to its corresponding products and customer records on the new store. About Our Client

Our client is a UK-based premium menswear brand operating across both online and offline channels. At an earlier stage, Cegid supported the business as a backend system focused on retail operations, including POS, inventory, orders, CRM, and omnichannel management. However, the lack of built-in website management capabilities led to higher development costs and slower storefront changes over time.

As the business scaled, the client looked to Shopify as a more full-stack eCommerce solution. The platform’s ready-made themes, drag-and-drop editor, rich app ecosystem, and built-in checkout and payment features offered greater control and flexibility over their online store than their existing setup allowed.

When migrating from a retail-focused system like Cegid to Shopify, our client carefully researched multiple service providers. They chose LitExtension for our proven experience handling complex migrations between ERP-style and eCommerce platforms, supported by positive customer feedback and our status as a certified Shopify partner.

Our Client’s Requirements

The client needed to migrate historical order data from Cegid to Shopify using an exported database file. After the migration, these orders had to be correctly linked to their corresponding products in Shopify to ensure data consistency and accurate order records.

The Challenges

The main challenge in this project came from the platform difference itself. ERP systems store order information in ways that don’t map directly to eCommerce records, so the transfer required careful interpretation rather than a straight one-to-one copy.

On top of this, a specific issue surfaced inside the client’s order database: some orders were marked with a paid value of 0. This appeared to reflect how their particular setup recorded certain transactions, rather than a universal Cegid default. If left unaddressed, these zero values could create discrepancies between sales reports in Cegid and Shopify after migration.

Our Solution

From the start of the project, our client opted for our All-in-One Migration Service, which meant a dedicated team of migration experts handled the case end to end. This early involvement turned out to be valuable, because during the initial review of the exported order data, our team spotted the orders marked with a paid value of 0 and flagged the discrepancy before any migration work began.

We then conducted a detailed review of the client’s exported sales data – with a focus on the orders that appeared mixed up – to understand how order values were structured and calculated in Cegid. This included comparing different data versions and identifying the fields used to derive sales totals, with particular attention to order-level and line-item pricing.

Based on this analysis, we worked with the client to confirm the correct interpretation of order item values, including the meaning of negative entries and the calculation logic behind their sales records. Once the data rules were clearly defined and approved, we applied the agreed mapping logic to ensure consistent and accurate order migration to Shopify.

The actual order transfer followed our standard workflow, including a demo migration, a full migration, and thorough QA testing. By the end, all orders had been accurately migrated from Cegid to Shopify, with correct links to products, product titles, and customer records.
