Complete your migration in just three simple steps.

Select PrestaShop as “Source Cart” and Shopify as “Target Cart”. Enter the store URL and follow the brief instructions to connect stores.

Select Entites

Step 2: Select Your Store Data Entities

Select the entities you want to migrate from Prestashop to Shopify, such as products, collections, customers, orders, coupons, and more.

Full Migration

Step 3: Perform Full Data Migration

Perform a full migration of PrestaShop to Shopify. Once the process is started, it will continue to run even if you close your browser.

Step-by-Step Guide to Migrating from PrestaShop to Shopify

To start your automated migration from PrestaShop to Shopify using the LitExtension migration tool:

  • Go to the LitExtension app.
  • Sign up with your email, or connect via Google for instant access.
  • Already have an account? Enter your email and password to log in.

Check the “Remember Me” box to skip re-entering your credentials next time. Staying logged in also makes it faster to track migration progress and reach technical support when needed.

Migrating from PrestaShop to Shopify

Step 1: Set Up Source & Target Carts

The first step is connecting LitExtension to both your PrestaShop and Shopify stores. This gives the system access to your data on both platforms so the transfer can begin.

On the Migration Page, click Create New Migration.

1.1. Set Up Source Cart (PrestaShop)

Source Cart Setup

In the Source Cart Setup section, select PrestaShop from the drop-down menu and enter your Source Cart URL.

Each cart type asks for different details, which appear once you make your selection. You have three ways to connect your store:

  • Install Connector: For open-source carts.
  • Provide API Keys: For hosted carts.
  • Import CSV Files: Best if your store has crashed, you have security concerns, face technical issues, or run on a cloud server.

1.2. Set Up Target Cart (Shopify)

Target Cart Setup

In the Target Cart Setup section, select Shopify from the drop-down menu and enter your Target Cart URL.

Follow the same process as the Source Cart Setup to connect LitExtension to your Shopify store using a Connector, API, or CSV file.

Step 2: Configure Your PrestaShop to Shopify Migration

Once LitExtension is connected to both carts, the next step is choosing what data to move and how. You can also turn on additional options to improve performance and SEO on your new Shopify store.

Entities Selection: Products, Customers, Orders, and More

Entities Selection Page

In the Entities To Migrate section, choose the data you want to transfer.

For the PrestaShop to Shopify migration, you can move:

  • Products
  • Customers
  • Orders
  • Coupons
  • CMS Pages
  • Blog

Click Select All to transfer everything at once.

If you need to migrate data that is not on this list, contact LitExtension experts for guidance on alternative solutions.

Additional Options: SEO Migration, Preserve IDs, and More

After selecting your data, review the Additional Options section. Common choices include:

  • Clear target cart data before migration.
  • Preserve IDs for products, customers, and orders.
  • Create 301 Redirects from PrestaShop to Shopify.
  • Strip HTML tags from category and product names.
  • Migrate Source Store Categories into Shopify Automated Collections.

Not sure which options to enable? Contact live chat for a free consultation.

Step 3: Run the PrestaShop to Shopify Migration

With your data selected and options configured, you are ready to migrate. LitExtension gives you two paths: run a quick demo first, or go straight to the full transfer.

To test how data moves before committing, choose Demo Migration. Learn more about the benefits of Demo Migration and how to run one in this step-by-step guide.

To skip the demo, tick Skip Demo Migration and click Start Full Migration.

Full Migration

Migration time depends on how many entities you are transferring. Because LitExtension runs on a cloud-based system, you do not need to keep your browser open or stay connected to the internet during the process. Check the Migration progress section at any time to see where things stand.

When the “Full Migration Is Completed” screen appears, review your results right away. Checking data integrity confirms that everything transferred correctly to your new Shopify store.

PrestaShop to Shopify Post-Migration Checklist

PrestaShop to Shopify PostMigration Checklist

Your migration is done, but the work is not finished yet. Before going live, you need to verify everything. A migration that completes without errors can still have broken product relationships, misconfigured integrations, or missing customer records that only show up after launch.

This checklist walks you through every verification step in order, starting with the issues that cause the most damage first. After your migration completes, open your LitExtension dashboard and review the detailed migration report before working through the steps below.

  • Verify core data integrity
  • Validate data quality
  • Review error logs and exceptions
  • Run a delta migration
  • Reconfigure integrations and apps
  • Restore communication channels
  • Update internal links and templates
  • Check tracking and SEO

Step 1: Verify Core Data Integrity

Start by confirming that your store’s foundation arrived intact: the records themselves and the relationships between them.

Compare Record Counts:

  • Pull total counts for products, customers, orders, and categories from your PrestaShop export. Then open Shopify admin and check that the numbers match. A count mismatch at this stage requires investigation before you move on to anything else.
  • Watch for one specific difference: PrestaShop and Shopify handle product attributes differently. A product with three color options and four size options in PrestaShop migrates as 12 flat variants in Shopify. That is correct behavior, but all 12 variants must be present.

Validate Structural Relationships. Open 10 to 15 sample records across products, orders, and customers and confirm:

  • Products are assigned to the correct Shopify collections, not dumped into a default category
  • Orders are linked to the right customer accounts
  • Historical order data, including taxes, shipping methods, and payment statuses, matches PrestaShop records

Step 2: Validate Data Quality

Confirming that data exists is not the same as confirming it is correct. Review a sample of products for names, descriptions, SKUs, prices, variants, and images.

Pay close attention to:

  • Decimal and currency formatting. PrestaShop stores prices with comma separators in many locales. Shopify expects period-based decimals. Misformatted prices stay hidden until a customer tries to check out.
  • Broken image URLs. Product images that pointed to your PrestaShop server must now resolve to Shopify’s CDN.
  • Customer records. Review email addresses, billing and shipping details, customer groups, and account statuses. If passwords were migrated, test login on a few accounts to confirm customers can access their profiles without issues.

Step 3: Review the LitExtension Migration Report

Open your LitExtension dashboard and go to the migration report for your completed job. This report lists every entity that was skipped or partially migrated, along with the reason why.

Go through every failed or skipped entity and decide what to do: manual correction, a custom mapping rule, or a targeted re-run.

Records skipped because of platform limitations, such as PrestaShop-specific custom fields with no Shopify equivalent, should be handled through Shopify metafields or a relevant app if the data matters to your operations. Fixing exceptions now prevents hidden problems from surfacing after launch.

Step 4: Run a Delta Migration for New Data

If your PrestaShop store stayed active during the initial migration, new orders came in and customer records were updated while the transfer was running. A delta migration closes that gap.

Using LitExtension, run a Recent Data Migration directly from your dashboard to re-migrate data created or modified after your original cutoff point. After it completes:

  • Recheck record counts
  • Spot-test the five to ten most recent orders to confirm they appear correctly in Shopify

This step is what guarantees data continuity when you redirect customers to the new store.

Step 5: Reconfigure Integrations and Third-Party Apps

Third-party tools do not follow your data when you switch platforms. Payment gateways, shipping providers, tax tools, CRM systems, ERP platforms, email marketing services, and analytics platforms all need to be manually reinstalled and reconnected on Shopify.

For each integration:

  1. Reinstall the relevant Shopify app and reconnect it using updated API keys or credentials
  2. Place a test order to confirm payments process, shipping rates calculate correctly, and tax rules apply as expected
  3. Confirm order data syncs to your CRM or ERP
  4. Run a test fulfillment if you use a third-party logistics provider

A store that looks ready but has a broken payment gateway is not ready.

Step 6: Restore and Test Communication Channels

Email services, notification rules, and contact forms are platform-dependent and do not migrate automatically. Work through every customer-facing communication point:

  • Transactional emails: Order confirmations, shipping updates, password resets
  • Contact forms
  • Live chat tools
  • Customer support ticket systems

Confirm that sender domains are authenticated and your SMTP configuration or third-party email service is correctly connected in Shopify. Then run end-to-end tests: place a test order, submit the contact form, and trigger a password reset. These tests take under 30 minutes and prevent customer-facing failures after launch.

Step 7: Update Internal Links, Templates, and Automations

Migration changes URL structures. A PrestaShop URL like /en/clothing/t-shirts/product-name.html looks structurally different on Shopify, which means every internal link pointing to the old format is broken.

Audit your help center articles, FAQ pages, blog posts, and policy pages for outdated links. Where URL changes were unavoidable, set up 301 redirects using Shopify’s native URL redirects feature.

Beyond links, review your operational logic:

  • Front-end templates: product pages, checkout layouts, email designs
  • Backend automations: order fulfillment rules, inventory updates, abandoned cart flows, marketing triggers

Rebuild or adjust each workflow to match Shopify’s logic, then test using controlled scenarios before launch.

Step 8: Verify Tracking and SEO Configuration

Confirm that Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, advertising pixels, and reporting dashboards are installed and collecting data. Run a complete purchase flow and verify that the transaction appears in your analytics platform.

For SEO, review URL structures, meta titles, meta descriptions, canonical tags, and indexing settings. Submit an updated sitemap to Google Search Console after your Shopify store is live, then monitor crawl errors in the days following launch.

One honest caveat: Even a well-executed migration will see some ranking fluctuation in the weeks after you switch platforms. That is normal. A sudden, sustained drop in indexed pages is not, and it usually points to missing redirects or a misconfigured robots.txt file. If you run into any issues during setup, data transfer, or post-migration review, reach out at any time. Contact the LitExtension Customer Support team and get help 24/7 to keep your migration accurate, secure, and on track.

The import was not exceptional from the beginning, having quite a few customized things in PrestaShop. However, all the people I contacted at LitExtension took a keen interest in making things work out well. They even intervened and adapted the module so that all the data would transfer to Shopify. I would definitely turn to them again if I had to go through this process once more. Thank you.

We had a great experience with LitExtension during our migration. We migrated over 30000 products with their specifications data, 60000 customers and 60000 orders. The LitExtension team helped us through the whole thing, with very quick responses and good solutions when we would get stuck and needed to find ways to adapt old data to the new platform. Our migration was from PrestaShop to Shopify. If we were to do it again, we would choose LitExtension again as well.
