Manually Switch from Wix to Squarespace

Wix intentionally restricts bulk data exports to trap users on their platform. Manual migration is tedious and requires moving content piece by piece. Follow these steps to force the transfer yourself.

Step 1: Build Your Squarespace Site

Squarespace enforces a rigid design system. You must adapt to their block editor. Pick a template and set up your core page hierarchy (Home, About, Blog). Review mobile views constantly; failing to do so guarantees a poor user experience.

Step 2: Export Wix Data

You cannot click one button to export your Wix site. You must extract it manually.

• Blogs: Add /blog-feed.xml to your Wix URL. Save the XML file to capture text and dates. Images will not export.
• Images: Download images individually from the Wix Media Manager. Sort them into local folders.
• Text: Copy and paste text into Google Docs. Alternatively, use the Wix Multilingual section to export a CSV.
• Forms: Export contacts to a CSV. Download submissions. You cannot export form designs.

Step 3: Import to Squarespace

You must rebuild your site manually.

• Text: Paste text into Squarespace Text Blocks. Reformat headers and links natively.
• Images: Upload images from your local folders into Gallery Blocks. Name files clearly for SEO indexing.
• Blogs: Create new posts. Paste text, upload images, and match your old Wix URLs exactly to avoid destroying your SEO rankings.
• Forms: Build new forms from scratch and connect them to new storage targets.

Step 4: Move Your Domain

Point your domain to Squarespace to push the site live.

• Option A: Transfer: Unlock the Wix domain. Get the EPP authorization code. Paste it into Squarespace (Settings > Domains). This takes up to 7 days.
• Option B: Connect: Keep your domain registrar. Change DNS records to point to Squarespace. This propagates in 48 hours.
