Shopline to Shopify Migration
In this project, we supported a Hong Kong–based coffee brand in migrating their entire store database from Shopline to Shopify. About Our Client
Our client is a Hong Kong–based coffee brand offering freshly roasted coffee and brewing products to local customers. Their website plays a key role in presenting their product range, supporting online orders and connecting directly with their customer base.
While Shopline supported their basic operations, it offered limited flexibility for storefront customization and promotional campaigns. To gain greater design control, more advanced merchandising tools and access to a broader app ecosystem, the team decided to migrate to Shopify to support their long-term growth.
With many migration service providers on the market, the client carefully evaluated their options before moving forward. They chose LitExtension for our proven experience in Shopline migrations, transparent process, and ability to handle complex data accurately with minimal risk.
Our Client’s Requirements
After choosing our All-in-One Migration Service, the client required a complete and accurate transfer of their store data from Shopline to Shopify, with special attention to multilingual content and custom product information. More specifically, the requirements included:
- Transfer all essential data from Shopline to Shopify, including products, customers, and orders.
- Preserve and correctly configure all existing store languages (English and Chinese) on Shopify.
- Retain the Best Before Date field and display it properly on individual product pages.
The Challenges
The main challenge in this project involved migrating shipping and billing addresses for existing orders. Differences in how Shopline and Shopify structure and store order address data meant certain fields did not align directly between the two platforms. Without careful mapping, this could have resulted in incomplete or misassigned address information, potentially affecting order records and fulfillment accuracy after the migration.
Our Solution
To resolve the above challenge, we reviewed how shipping and billing addresses were stored on each platform. Because Shopline groups certain order address fields together, the data structure does not match Shopify’s separate shipping and billing address format. To resolve this, we adjusted the data mapping for each address field and carefully validated the results to ensure the correct mapping.
All core data, including products, customers, and orders, was migrated using our standard All-in-One Migration Service process. The process covered data mapping, full migration, and thorough QA checks to maintain accuracy and data integrity.
Regarding product-specific information, we created a custom metafield on Shopify to store and display the Best Before Date correctly on product pages.. Data from Shopline was then migrated into this metafield, ensuring the information displayed correctly on individual product pages. In addition, all additional store languages were migrated and configured as translations within Shopify to maintain a consistent multilingual experience.
