About Our Client

iCookGreek is an Athens-based, Greek-language free press magazine that celebrates the rich culinary traditions of Greece. As the first publication of its kind, they offer a unique blend of traditional recipes and modern takes on Greek cuisine, appealing to both food enthusiasts and home cooks.

The client had been using an outdated version of Joomla 3, which made it difficult to add new features or plugins. They also struggled with poor SEO performance and issues with Google structured data, which affected their online visibility. To address these challenges, they decided to migrate to WordPress, a platform known for its flexibility, modern tools, and blogging-friendly features.

Our Client’s Requirements

The client needed a secure and accurate migration of their data, which included recipes, blog posts, images, article authors, etc. Since their website had been live since 2006, preserving their extensive archive was essential. They wanted to ensure that no data was lost or corrupted during the migration, as their legacy content was a vital part of their brand’s identity and connection with their audience.

The Challenges

The main challenge during the migration was the client’s requirement to transfer both blog posts and recipes to WooCommerce. However, WooCommerce primarily supports blogs, with no built-in option to handle recipes as a separate content type.

Our Solution

To solve the challenge of WooCommerce not supporting recipes as a separate content type, the client installed a dedicated plugin for recipe management. The LitExtension team developed custom code to migrate the recipes seamlessly into this plugin, ensuring they were displayed correctly in the new format.

For the migration of blog posts, authors, images, and other data, we utilized our All-in-One Migration Service. This ensured that all content was transferred securely and accurately, preserving the client’s extensive archive. By combining our migration service with a custom solution for recipes, we addressed the challenge effectively and delivered a fully functional WooCommerce site tailored to the client’s needs.
