About Our Client

Our client is based in Switzerland and specializes in selling minerals, fossils, meteorites, and handcrafted jewelry. They offer unique pieces made in their in-house workshop, catering to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate natural history and artisanal craftsmanship.

Jimdo’s limited customization options restricted their ability to showcase their beautifully-crafted products effectively. That’s when they turned to PrestaShop, a platform known for its powerful customization tools, including drag-and-drop page builders, advanced product display options, and flexible theme customization. These features allow them to create a store that truly reflected their brand and improved the overall shopping experience.

Our Client’s Requirements

The client wanted to migrate essential store data, including products, customers, orders, product categories, manufacturers, taxes, to PrestaShop. Additionally, they requested the following Additional Options to enhance their migration

  • Clear current data on Target Store before Migration;
  • Migrate categories and product SEO URLs;
  • Create 301 redirects on Target Store;
  • Preserve order IDs on Target Store.

The Challenges

A major challenge in this project was the client’s complex category structure. Their store had many categories with different hierarchies, making it difficult to map them correctly in PrestaShop. Without proper alignment, products could end up in the wrong categories, leading to navigation issues and broken links.

Our Solution

To handle the complex category structure, we carefully analyzed the client’s existing hierarchy before starting the migration. We mapped each category and subcategory to its correct place in PrestaShop, ensuring proper alignment.

After organizing the categories, we ran our All-in-One Migration Service to transfer the remaining data, including products, customers, orders, manufacturers, taxes, and CMS pages. We then ran the Additional Options as requested to further enhance the migration.
