GoDaddy to Shopify Migration

Since they wanted to reach a wider audience, both local and international, they needed an online store to showcase their artistry and identity. However, GoDaddy’s limited themes and rigid customization made it difficult to capture their brand identity online. This pushed them to consider Shopify, which provides over 800 mobile-responsive themes and an intuitive editor that allows full creative control without advanced technical skills.

Their key requirement was to migrate all essential store data from GoDaddy to Shopify. The biggest challenge in this project came from the way GoDaddy and Shopify handle customer and order data. On GoDaddy, customer information is often embedded directly within each transaction record. In contrast, Shopify structures the data differently – customer profiles and their associated orders are kept separate but linked together. This difference in database structure created complexity in transferring historical sales data.

We began by analyzing the client’s GoDaddy store structure and setting up detailed field mapping to match Shopify’s database requirements. This ensured that product data, customer profiles, and order histories transferred seamlessly despite structural differences between the two platforms.

With the mapping in place, we performed a demo migration to demonstrate how the data would appear in Shopify. After the client approved the results, we carried out the full migration and ran several rounds of testing to ensure everything was accurate and complete.
