About Our Client
Our client is a U.S.-based online retailer specializing in luxury watches and accessories. With a curated collection of high-end timepieces from renowned brands, they have built a strong reputation for offering top-quality products and exceptional customer service.
Their online store had been running on Ecwid, but as their business grew, they found the platform lacked the advanced features and customization options needed to scale. They wanted a more flexible solution with better design options and integrations to support their expanding business. Upon researching their options, they decided to migrate to WooCommerce, a platform known for its versatility, robust features, and seamless integration with WordPress.
They came across positive reviews and heard about LitExtension’s successful track record, which led them to reach out to us. They contacted us with their migration needs and situation, and after reviewing their requirements, we were confident we could deliver a smooth and efficient migration to WooCommerce.
Our Client’s Requirements
When it came time to migrate to WooCommerce, our client had a clear vision of what they needed to ensure a seamless transition. Here’s what they asked for:
- Migrate all products, categories, and product images from Ecwid to WooCommerce.
- Transfer customer data and order history, including key details like emails and order status, to maintain continuity.
- Keep product descriptions and formatting exactly the same, so customers could reach out easily.
- Set the default WooCommerce product attribute to “Watch Accessories” for every relevant item, to save time and ensure consistency when listing new products.
- Migrate Google attributes and meta fields to ensure compatibility with Google Merchant Center, keeping the products properly categorized and visible in advertising.
- For out-of-stock items, they needed them hidden from the storefront to avoid clutter, but still indexable by Google, so the products remained visible in search results.
The Challenges
One small challenge we encountered was gaining access to the data from the client’s Ecwid store. They were unable to retrieve the API credentials, which are necessary for accessing and migrating the store data.
Our Solution
To address the API access issue, we carefully guided the client through each step of retrieving the necessary API credentials from their Ecwid store. After working with the client to troubleshoot the issue, we successfully gained the required access, allowing us to proceed with the migration smoothly.
Now, onto the client’s specific migration requirements, we ran the All-in-One Migration Service and fulfill one-by-one:
- Migrating products, categories, and product images: We utilized Ecwid’s API to extract product data and category structures. For images, we directly pulled high-resolution files and associated them with the corresponding products in WooCommerce, ensuring proper mapping for display.
- Migrating customers and order history: Using Ecwid’s API, we exported customer data and order history, then imported them into WooCommerce. We mapped the order statuses and customer details to ensure seamless data continuity.
- Preserving product descriptions and formatting: We used a custom script to extract product descriptions in HTML format from Ecwid and directly transferred them to WooCommerce, maintaining all links, formatting, and layout.
- Setting default WooCommerce product attributes: Through WooCommerce’s bulk edit functionality, we set the default product attribute to “Watch Accessories” for all applicable products, automating this step during migration to ensure consistency.
- Migrating Google Attributes and meta fields: We extracted relevant Google attributes (e.g., GTIN, brand) from Ecwid using the API, then mapped them to WooCommerce meta fields, ensuring products were ready for Google Merchant Center integration.
