About Our Client

Shop Piemonte, founded in 2013 in the heart of Italy’s Piedmont region (San Damiano d’Asti), is dedicated to sharing the rich culinary heritage of their homeland. They offer a curated selection of authentic Piedmontese food and wine products, showcasing the region’s renowned flavors and artisanal traditions.

At that time, their store was running on the outdated PrestaShop version 1.6. They faced several challenges, including limitations in SEO performance and a bug that prevented them from efficiently creating gift cards for their customers.

Seeking a more modern and robust solution, Shop Piemonte explored the market and found that Shopware 6 perfectly aligned with their needs. Shopware 6’s advanced technology, powerful features, and intuitive design promised to overcome the limitations of their old platform and empower them to take their business to the next level.

Our Client’s Requirements

For this migration project, Shop Piemonte required a complete transfer of their online store data from PrestaShop to Shopware, including products, customers, orders, and other core elements.

In addition to the standard data migration, they had two specific requirements to ensure a seamless transition for their customers and maintain their online visibility:

  • Customer password maintenance: Our client wanted their customers to be able to log in to the new Shopware store using their existing passwords from PrestaShop. This would provide a smooth and convenient experience for their returning customers.
  • SEO performance reservation: To avoid any negative impact on their search engine rankings and maintain a consistent online presence, they requested that all SEO URLs be migrated accurately. This would prevent broken links and preserve their hard-earned search engine visibility.

The Challenges

This migration posed complex challenges, particularly with preserving customer login credentials and migrating SEO URLs. The differing security protocols and password hashing methods between PrestaShop and Shopware required careful handling. Additionally, ensuring accurate URL mapping to prevent broken links and maintain search rankings added to the complexity, requiring a deep understanding of both platforms.

Our Solution

To meet Shop Piemonte’s unique needs, we implemented a customized approach that went beyond standard data migration. In addition to transferring their core data, we employed the following solutions:

  • Customer Password Migration service: Our experts securely installed the LitExtension Customer Migration Password plugin on the Shopware platform, using established protocols and encryption methods to protect sensitive data. The plugin then automatically migrated the converted customer password data under our team’s careful supervision, guaranteeing a secure and accurate transfer.
  • SEO URLs Migration service: To preserve their SEO rankings and prevent broken links, we implemented our robust SEO URLs Migration service. Our automated code rewrote the URL rules, ensuring that URL paths remained consistent despite the transition to a new platform. This process maintained the integrity of the client’s existing SEO structure and minimized any potential disruption to their online visibility.
