About Our Client

Our client started in 1892, offering a wide range of hinges and hardware for homes and businesses. Over the years, they have built a strong customer base and accumulated a vast database, thanks to their high-quality products and reliable service.

To a point, managing the high volume of orders on Miva Merchant became a challenge for our client. The platform lacked the flexibility and automation needed to keep up, making order processing slow and inefficient. They turned to Shopify for its streamlined order management system, which handled increasing demand with ease.

Our Client’s Requirements

For this migration, our client had several key demands to ensure a smooth transition from Miva Merchant to Shopify:

  • Transfer all orders, customers, products, categories, and manufacturers to Shopify.
  • Move important product attributes, including the “Specs” and “Downloads” tabs, into Shopify’s metafields.
  • Do not migrate the bundle products to the new store.

Adding to that, they also requested us to run these Additional Options:

  • Migrate categories and products SEO URLs.
  • Preserve order IDs on Target Store.

The Challenges

Migrating products from Miva Merchant to Shopify was more complex than expected because of how Miva structures its data. The product information was split across multiple sections, which made it difficult to ensure a complete and accurate transfer.

Adding to the challenge, Miva hides simple product pages, linking them to configurable or bundled pages instead. These main pages often contained the most up-to-date and accurate data, but since they were structured differently, mapping the right details to Shopify required extra effort.

Our Solution

To tackle this challenge, we worked closely with the client to finalize a detailed product mapping file before migration. This ensured that all product data, including hidden and configurable pages, was correctly structured for Shopify.

Once the mapping was complete, we ran the All-in-One Migration Service to transfer the data seamlessly. For other specific requirements, we customized the system’s source code to ensure a smooth and accurate migration.
