About Our Client
For this project, we worked with a client that provides a wide range of performance props for the flow arts industry. Their catalog includes poi, staffs, hoops, and other visual performance tools that are both durable and mesmerizing, making them popular in the global flow arts community.
Scalability and ease of use were the primary drivers for our clients’ decision to migrate from Zoey to Shopify. As their business grew, they needed a platform that could keep up with their expanding product catalog and increasing customer base. Shopify not only handled the growth effortlessly but also made daily operations much simpler, allowing them to focus on scaling their business without the complications they faced on Zoey.
Our Client’s Requirements
Our client had a very clear vision for how they wanted their Shopify store to be set up, and they gave us specific instructions on what data to move and what to leave behind:
- Selective data migration: They requested a complete migration of core data (products, customers, orders). However, they did not want to migrate pages, blogs, or other non-eCommerce content.
- Pre-migration data clearing: Before the migration, they wanted all existing products, customers, and orders on their Shopify store to be cleared. However, they wished to retain their current collections and menus while adding new ones from Zoey.
- Custom product tagging: They required the addition of “WH1” and “WH2” tags to all migrated products within Shopify.
The Challenges
The demo migration highlighted a crucial data-mapping discrepancy between Zoey and Shopify that required a customized solution. The client’s feedback revealed that the “Overview” field in Zoey should actually map to the standard “Description” field in Shopify, while the “Description” field in Zoey should be migrated to a custom metafield called “What’s Included” on Shopify.
Our Solution
After the initial demo migration, the client provided valuable feedback regarding the product description fields. In response, we applied our Customized Migration service to remap the “Overview” and “Description” fields for accurate display on the Shopify store. This included creating a custom metafield called “What’s Included” and mapping the original Zoey “Description” field to this new metafield, tailored specifically to the client’s needs.
For the rest of the client’s data, we implemented our comprehensive All-in-One Migration service. As requested, we first cleared all existing products, customers, and orders from their Shopify store while preserving their existing collections and menus. We then carefully executed the migration, transferring all essential ecommerce data, including products, customers, and orders, from Zoey to Shopify.
