About Our Client
Our client is a fashion-forward online retailer, curating a collection of trendy and stylish clothing, accessories, and footwear for the modern shopper. They pride themselves on offering unique pieces from emerging designers and independent brands, allowing their customers to express their individuality through their wardrobe choices.
While they appreciated Wix’s website-building capabilities, they found that the platform lacked some eCommerce features needed to manage their growing online business effectively. For this reason, they have decided to migrate to Shopify – an all-in-one solution with a focus on sales tools, inventory management, and order fulfillment.
Our Client’s Requirements
For this migration project, our client requested the team to transfer all essential data, such as products, customers, orders, and other core elements of their eCommerce store. Besides, before initiating the migration process, they also wanted all existing data on their Shopify store to be cleared. This would ensure a clean slate for the incoming data from Wix API and prevent any potential conflicts or duplication.
The Challenges
This Wix to Shopify migration presented a significant data integrity challenge due to differences in customer account requirements between the two platforms. On Wix, multiple customers could share the same email address. However, Shopify requires each customer to have a unique email address. For this reason, migrating data directly would result in lost customer information and incorrectly linked orders, as only one customer record per email could be transferred to Shopify.
Our Solution
To address the challenge of duplicate email addresses, we prioritized clear and transparent communication with our client. We thoroughly explained the issue and presented them with the available options, including the potential consequences of each approach. After careful consideration, the client agreed to remove the duplicate email addresses from their Wix customer data before proceeding with the migration.
We then implemented our comprehensive All-in-One Migration service to transfer the client’s online store from Wix to Shopify. Our team leveraged our expertise in data mapping, carefully matching data fields between the two platforms. All essential data, including products, customers, orders, and other core elements, were migrated successfully.
