About Our Client
Our client specializes in providing fresh and high-quality feeder insects, such as locusts, bee maggots, mealworms, and crickets. Their products are a vital resource for reptile owners and enthusiasts who care deeply about the nutrition of their animals.
They chose to migrate from OXID eShop to WooCommerce because OXID’s limited features restricted their ability to improve and scale their store. Meanwhile, WooCommerce offered the modern tools and flexibility they needed to grow their online presence.
Our Client’s Requirements
The client had specific and detailed requirements for their OXID eShop to WooCommerce migration:
- Consolidate data from three separate sources, with orders, products, and customers each originating from different systems.
- Migrate parcel tracking information to ensure seamless order management.
- Maintain existing URLs and SEO settings to preserve search engine rankings and traffic.
- Transfer product taxes accurately to align with their current tax settings.
- Migrate product units to ensure all items displayed the correct measurements and specifications in the new store.
The Challenges
The biggest challenge of this project was the complexity of consolidating data from three separate sources into a single WooCommerce store. Each source contained distinct data sets – orders, products, and customers. The intricate nature of combining these datasets made the process highly demanding, especially as even minor errors could disrupt the client’s store operations.
Our Solution
To meet the client’s requirements and overcome the challenges, we implemented All-in-One Migration and Customized Migration services for each aspect of the migration:
- Consolidating data from multiple sources: We carefully mapped and transferred data from the three separate systems.
- Migrating parcel tracking information: Since WooCommerce doesn’t have a built-in order tracking feature, we migrated the tracking data into the Notes section of each order.
- Maintaining URLs and SEO settings: We meticulously verified all existing URLs and SEO settings during the migration to ensure the client’s search engine rankings and website traffic were preserved.
- Transferring product taxes: Tax migration isn’t directly supported between OXID eShop and WooCommerce, so we adapted by setting all products to “Taxable.”
- Migrating product units: To display product units correctly, the client installed a third-party plugin in their WooCommerce store. We then migrated the unit data from the OXID éhop directly into the plugin’s database.
