About Our Client
Established in 2010, our client is a leading provider of maternity, baby, and children’s products. Their mission is to offer parents high-quality and innovative items, sourced from trusted global brands. With a diverse range of over 4,000 products, their store caters to the needs of mothers and babies, from pregnancy essentials to newborn and toddler supplies.
The client decided to migrate from OpenCart to Shopline due to the growing limitations they faced with their existing platform. As their business expanded, they needed a more flexible, scalable, and user-friendly solution to better manage their vast inventory. Shopline offered them the right tools and features to optimize their operations and deliver a superior shopping experience for customers.
Our Client’s Requirements
In addition to migrating all the default data, such as products, orders, customers, and categories, the client also had a specific requirement to migrate their multi-language setup. With their store supporting three languages – English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese – it was crucial that all language data were transferred accurately.
The Challenges
One of the primary challenges encountered during the migration was the client’s current plan on OpenCart, which did not support the installation of third-party API apps. Additionally, the target platform, Shopline 1.0, only supported the migration of two languages instead of the required three. These factors added complexity to the initial stages of the project, requiring careful planning before the project could proceed.
Our Solution
To address these challenges, our team of LitExtension experts provided valuable consultation and devised an effective solution. Since the client’s OpenCart plan did not support the installation of third-party API apps, we recommended switching from the All-in-One Migration Service to the CSV Files Migration Service. This approach allowed us to bypass the API restrictions by exporting the data from OpenCart in the form of SQL files, which we could then import into Shopline 1.0. Each column in these files represented a specific data field, enabling us to accurately extract and transfer the necessary information.
For the language limitation, we consulted the client and recommended that they select two languages out of the three originally requested. After careful consideration, the client opted to migrate English and Traditional Chinese, allowing us to proceed with the migration while maintaining the store’s bilingual support.
