Magento to OpenCart Migration

Our client is one of the oldest and most established Judaica stores in Brooklyn. For over three decades, they have served the local community, along with domestic and international customers. Their diverse product range includes games, toys, jewelry, bags, garments, and other Judaica-related items.

They decided to move from Magento to OpenCart because Magento’s frequent updates requires significant technical expertise to manage. This made it difficult to maintain their store efficiently. Meanwhile, OpenCart offered a simpler, more user-friendly solution that allowed them to manage their extensive Judaica collection with ease.

The client requested a migration of their basic data, including products, customers, and orders, from Magento to OpenCart. They wanted the transition to be accurate and seamless, ensuring their store could function properly on the new platform without any data loss.

One significant challenge in this migration was handling Magento’s configurable products. In Magento, configurable products are linked to simple products to create various purchase options. However, OpenCart uses a different structure with only option values.

When converting simple products to option values in OpenCart, the price of the simple product was automatically assigned to the option value. This caused an issue where the product price in OpenCart would increase by the option value’s price when added to the cart.
