About Our Client
Our client, Tayloe/Gray, is a full-service digital marketing agency that empowers brands to thrive in the ever-evolving online landscape. Their expertise spans a wide range of services, including branding, design, data-driven technology, and strategic marketing. They’re passionate about helping businesses create meaningful connections with their customers through innovative digital solutions.
For this project, Tayloe/Gray was tasked with migrating one of their clients, a leading cycling equipment and apparel retailer, from Lightspeed to Shopify. The retailer was eager to leverage Shopify’s robust sales features and vast app store to enhance their online store, streamline operations, and drive sales growth.
Our Client’s Requirements
They had specific goals in mind for their migration to Shopify, aiming to optimize their product presentation and streamline their store’s organization. This involved two key requirements:
- Preserving important product details: They wanted to make sure certain product details from their Lightspeed store were transferred to specific fields within Shopify, even if those fields weren’t an exact match between the two platforms. This ensured they didn’t lose valuable product information during the migration.
- Simplifying product variations: They wanted to display their product variations differently on Shopify. In their Lightspeed store, multiple options (like sizes or colors) were grouped together. For Shopify, they wanted each variation to be its own separate product listing. This would make it easier for customers to browse and find what they need.
The Challenges
This migration demanded a high degree of technical precision to ensure the client’s unique product data was transferred accurately. To fulfill both of the requirements, the LitExtension team have to perform a very careful data mapping technique.
Our Solution
To fulfill our client’s vision for their Shopify store, we implemented customized solutions tailored to their specific requirements:
- Migrating product details to metafields: We utilized Shopify’s metafield functionality to store the client’s important product details, even though those details didn’t have a direct equivalent on the Shopify platform. This ensured that no valuable product information was lost during the migration.
- Separating product variations: Our team developed a custom solution to split the client’s product variations from Lightspeed into individual product listings on Shopify. This restructuring simplified their product catalog and made it easier for customers to find and purchase the exact variations they were looking for.
