About Our Client
Our client is a Germany-based company that specializes in creating unique and heartwarming cards for all of life’s special occasions. They offer a delightful array of postcards, invitation cards, and pop-up cards, all beautifully designed to add a touch of joy and personality to gift-giving.
They chose to migrate their online store from Joomla to Shopify for two key reasons. First, Shopify’s user-friendly interface would make managing their online store much easier. Second, its vast app store would provide them with the tools they needed to extend their store’s functionalities and create a more engaging customer experience.
Our Client’s Requirements
Our client desired a comprehensive migration of their online store from Joomla to Shopify. This included transferring all essential data, such as products, customers, orders, categories, and customer reviews.
To ensure a seamless transition and optimize their new Shopify store, they also wanted to take advantage of several features included in LitExtension’s All-in-One Migration package:
- Preserve Product, Order, Customer IDs on Target Store;
- Migrate Images from Products, Categories and Blog Post Descriptions;
- Create 301 Redirects on Target Store;
- Strip HTML tags from category and product names automatically when migrating your store.
The Challenges
While the core data migration from Joomla to Shopify proceeded smoothly, we encountered a technical challenge when transferring product media files. Specifically, GIF images failed to import correctly into the Shopify platform. This presented a potential issue as GIFs were an integral part of the client’s product presentation, adding visual appeal and demonstrating product functionality.
Our Solution
Respecting the client’s database security protocols, we utilized the login credentials provided to access their Joomla store and export the data using Joomla’s built-in features. Our team meticulously executed the migration process, leveraging our robust data mapping techniques to seamlessly transfer all products, customers, orders, categories, and reviews to the Shopify platform.
To address the challenge of migrating GIF files, we communicated openly with the client about the challenges of migrating GIF files. Together, we decided to migrate the product images as JPGs, ensuring both visual appeal and data security.
