About Our Client

With nearly 100 years of experience in the skincare industry, Metrin Skincare has been dedicated to crafting skincare solutions that nurture and enhance natural beauty. With a commitment to quality ingredients and a focus on creating effective and gentle products, they’ve earned a reputation as a trusted name in the skincare industry.

Metrin Skincare sought a platform that would provide them with more control and flexibility over their online store while keeping costs manageable. They were impressed by WooCommerce’s open-source nature, which allowed for extensive customization, and its vast library of plugins. For this reason, they have come to the LitExtension experts for migrating from Drupal to WooCommerce.

Our Client’s Requirements

This migration project involved more than simply transferring data from Drupal to WooCommerce. Metrin Skincare needed a solution that would restructure their online presence to accommodate their growing international customer base. Their key requirements included:

  • Splitting the store by region: Metrin Skincare wanted to create two separate WooCommerce stores, one for the US market (metrinskincare.com) and one for the Canadian market (ca.metrinskincare.com). This split needed to be based on the order’s billing country, ensuring that customers and orders were assigned to the correct store. In addition, the seperation also needed to include the payment gateways, currencies, shipping options, and other region-specific configurations.
  • Affiliate genealogy and sequential migration: Metrin Skincare required a specific affiliate hierarchy, with designated “top-line” affiliates (“Metrin Life USA” and “Metrin Life CA”) for each store. To maintain existing relationships and numbering, they provided a spreadsheet outlining the desired affiliate genealogy using serial numbering. They requested that LitExtension migrate affiliates in the spreadsheet’s sequence using the “Starting Affiliate ID” plugin.

The Challenges

Accurately segmenting order and affiliate data based on billing country presented a significant obstacle in this migration. Each order and affiliate record needed to be carefully analyzed to determine the correct geographic location. This process was further complicated by the need to avoid any overlap or confusion between the data designated for the US and Canadian stores.

Our Solution

To fulfill Metrin Skincare’s unique requirements, we implemented a customized approach that went beyond a standard data migration.

With the first requirement, our team developed a custom migration plan to accurately separate data based on the order’s billing country. We created two separate WooCommerce stores, meticulously transferring products, customers, and orders to the appropriate US or Canadian store. We also ensured that each store was configured with the correct payment gateways, currencies, shipping options, and other region-specific settings to meet the client’s needs.

Moving onto the affiliate migration, we leveraged the “Starting Affiliate ID” plugin as requested by the client to implement the desired affiliate hierarchy. We manually configured the “top-line” affiliates, “Metrin Life USA” and “Metrin Life CA”, ensuring they were positioned at the top of the affiliate hierarchy in their respective stores.
