2 Ways to Perform Wix Migration
Over the past few years, Wix migration has never been a one-size-fits-all process. In fact, depending on your needs, skills, and budget, there are three different ways to make the switch, each with its own advantages.
Many store owners prefer the ease and convenience brought by LitExtension experts (for good reason). And of course, there’s always the manual route for those who want full control. In the sections below, we’ll walk you through all three methods so you can confidently choose the one that works best.
Method 1. Use LitExtension (recommended)
Looking for the most hassle-free way to move your store to Wix? Then the LitExtension All-in-One package is the perfect (if not the best) fit. In fact, you won’t have to lift a finger at all; our expert team will handle every step of the migration for you, from planning to launch:
Step 1. Consultant by LitExtension Experts
Before we begin any technical work, our team will guide you through a strategic planning phase to ensure your Wix migration is carefully tailored to your business.
- Tell us what you need
At this consultation step, our LitExtension migration experts will take time to learn more about your current store setup, what platform you’re migrating from, and what you want your Wix store to achieve.
Based on your answer, our team will identify potential compatibility issues and recommend a migration strategy that aligns with both your structure and goals. If you need any specific data customizations (like migrating customer passwords or blog posts), we’ll take note of that too!
- Get your quote and confirm the plan
Once your requirements are clear, we’ll provide a detailed quotation that includes the cost, scope of work, timeline, and any extra services needed (such as SEO migration or design adjustments). After both sides agree on the approach, you’ll sign the SLA (Service-Level Agreement), finalize your payment, and the migration officially kicks off. From here on out, you won’t have to worry about the technical side; we handle it all!
Step 2. Data mapping & setting by experts
This phase ensures your new Wix environment is ready to receive your data and that everything will migrate into the right place accurately without data loss.
- Prepare your Wix store environment
Now, our developers will start by preparing your Wix store to receive incoming data. We’ll set up any necessary tools and configure essential store settings so that the imported data integrates seamlessly. This particular stage could include setting up product collections, enabling special features, or applying critical directories or extensions that support your existing functionality from the old platform.
- Map your data to Wix’s structure
Not all eCommerce platforms organize data the same way, so mapping is a critical step! Our team will carefully align your source store data (including product catalogs, categories, customer lists, order history, coupons, and other settings) with the appropriate fields in Wix.
And what if there are fields that Wix doesn’t support directly (quite a common case with custom attributes)? In that case, we’ll discuss options with you, such as converting the data or using alternate layouts that preserve the information in a usable way.
- Preview with a demo migration
Before we transfer everything, we run a demo migration using a small, controlled sample of your actual store data so you can see how it will appear and function once fully imported into Wix. You’ll be able to check if product images display correctly, whether order statuses are intact, and if customer data is placed properly.
This demo acts as a safety net that gives you and our team the opportunity to spot and correct any issues early. We’ll go over the results together and modify any settings or mappings based on your feedback to guarantee that the full migration runs perfectly.
Step 3. Full Wix Migration & Post-Migration Support
Now that everything has been tested and approved, we move forward with the full migration, plus a full suite of aftercare to keep your store running smoothly.
- 6.Launch your complete Wix migration
After confirming that everything in the demo looks good, our team initiates the full migration. Every piece of your store’s data (products, SKUs, customers, reviews, order records, etc.) is transferred from your source platform to Wix.
We monitor the entire process in real time to ensure the migration proceeds without failed records or data corruption. Throughout this stage, you won’t need to intervene or supervise; we’ll notify you once everything is complete and verified!
- Post-migration check & aftercare
Migration doesn’t stop when the data lands in Wix. After the transfer, we conduct a detailed post-migration audit. Our team will scan through your new Wix store to make sure all data appears exactly as expected and behaves properly; no missing orders, no broken links, no jumbled categories.
And that’s just the beginning of our aftercare:
- Re-migration: If necessary, we’ll re-run the migration for free, as many times as you need, within 30 days of completion.
- Recent data migration: If you’ve added or updated data during the migration process (up to 5% of the total volume), we’ll re-import it free of charge within 30 days.
- Smart update service: For 90 days, we’ll update your existing Wix data to match any changes made in your old store without disrupting your new site.
Still need help fixing a minor display issue? Not sure how to make a setting change? Consider subscribing to our Premium Support service! And in the (very) rare case something goes seriously wrong and we can’t fix it, we offer a full refund within 30 days – no strings attached.
No matter what platform you’re coming from (or how complicated its structure might be), this process works like a charm across all Source Cart!
And this isn’t a one-man effort either: behind every migration is our full team of experts, each backed by over 12 years of hands-on experience and a proven track record with many reputable brands. Hence, when it comes to reliable, expert-led migrations, LitExtension is truly in a league of its own.
Method 2. Migrate Manually
Let’s be honest: this is the more time-consuming and labor-intensive method of the two. Manual migration means you’re responsible for every single step, from the moment data is exported to the final site checks before launch!
The process includes several complex stages: exporting data from your old platform, reformatting it to match Wix’s strict import templates, and then uploading everything manually, often piece by piece.
And let’s not forget the risk of human error. Missed product attributes or broken image links happen more often than you think when everything is done by hand. That’s why we typically don’t recommend this route unless you’re tech-savvy, extremely detail-oriented, and willing to invest a significant amount of time and patience into the process.
Nevertheless, manual migration can still be a viable backup plan if you’re working with a very limited budget or running a small store with only a handful of products. With enough patience and a bit of technical comfort, you might even pull it off in just a few days or weeks!
So, how does it actually work? Here’s what the process looks like:
Step 1. Export your data from the old platform
Most eCommerce platforms allow you to export your store data (like products, customers, and orders) into a CSV file. Before doing anything else, make sure you back up everything just in case something goes wrong. Then download the necessary files from your current platform’s admin panel.
Step 2. Reformat the data to fit Wix’s requirements
Here comes the tricky part. Wix has its own formatting rules for data imports (click here
So, chances are you’ll need to clean up the exported files and edit columns to make sure the layout matches what Wix expects. Needless to say, this process can be quite time-consuming if you’re unfamiliar with spreadsheets.
Step 3. Rebuild your store design from scratch
Design elements such as themes, page layouts, and visual settings can’t be carried over from your old store. So, basically, you’ll need to manually recreate your storefront using Wix’s drag-and-drop editor. Everything, from the homepage sections, product collections, menus, and banners to custom pages, must be built from the ground up!
Step 4. Import your product data into Wix
Once your CSV file is properly formatted, you can upload your product list using Wix’s import tool. But be prepared: it may take a few tries to get everything just right. If something’s off in the formatting, the system may reject the file or skip certain data.
For details that cannot be imported via a spreadsheet (e.g., discount codes or tax settings), you’ll likely need to re-enter them manually. Make sure to account for the time this will take when planning your manual migration.
When to Perform Wix Migration?
There’s no perfect time to migrate, but it’s easy to see definite, clear signs that your current platform is holding you back! If you’ve started noticing that your store feels clunky, hard to manage, or simply can’t keep up with your growth, it might be time for a change. Migrating to Wix makes the most sense when:
- Your current platform no longer supports your business growth, whether it’s in terms of traffic, features, or customization.
- You’re looking for built-in marketing tools, easier design options, or stronger integration with content-focused features like blogs or video.<
- Your team needs a more user-friendly backend so they can handle daily operations without needing a developer.
- You want a cleaner, more mobile-friendly storefront without redesigning everything from scratch.
- You’re aiming to reduce maintenance or platform fees and want a more all-in-one experience that Wix offers.
Does any of these sound familiar to you? If yes, a Wix migration is clearly the smart next step!
Extra Tips for Smooth Wix Migration
- Back up your entire source store before anything else: Before you start the migration process, it’s essential to create a full backup of your current store. In case anything goes wrong during the transfer, you’ll still have a clean version of your original store to fall back on.
- Clean up and organize your store data beforehand: Migrating a messy store only creates a messy result on Wix! Take this opportunity to remove discontinued products, inactive customers, duplicate records, and outdated content. If your categories are scattered or inconsistent, consider reorganizing them for better navigation on your new site.
- Take detailed screenshots of key page designs and layouts:Since your website design (including homepage layout, banners, navigation menus, and theme styles) cannot be transferred automatically, you’ll need to rebuild it in Wix manually. To speed up this process and keep your brand consistent, take clear screenshots of important pages from your old store before migration for better visual reference.
- Test your Wix store on desktop, tablet, and mobile: Once the migration is complete, don’t rush to publish your store. Spend time browsing every page on different devices and browsers to catch potential issues like broken links, images not loading properly, overlapping elements, or mobile display errors. Also, try placing a few test orders to ensure your cart, checkout process, and payment gateways are working smoothly.

I am in the process of moving my existing website over to Shopify. As this is my 4th iteration of my website, I knew I didn’t want to do the migration part myself again! Using this service meant that I could concentrate on running my business for a couple of days while the migration was being done for me.
Lotus was phenomenal! She is detailed-oriented and works extremely fast! She helped with the migration from Wix to Shopify in no time. Thank you so much Lotus and everyone at LitExtension!
It was great service from those guys! Verry complex case with very old Woocommerce to new Woocommerce store!
I built our new Shopify site myself but with no developer experience. I really struggled migrating products, customers and order history. It was a bit overwhelming until I found Lit. They helped me set it up and did the contract. Emailed me at every stage and listened to my feedback. I found them on Thursday and by Monday the work was completed.
Took most of the work off our hands. The team were great and went out of their way to get the migration from J2store to Shopify completed. The time zone differences were slightly difficult but that didn’t stop the work from being completed.
