BigCommerce is a hosted platform, which is home for 49,795 online stores and it is favored by many big brands such as Toyota, Kodak, and Ben & Jerry’s,… thanks to some superior attributes such as ease of use, strong built-in features, support, and security.
However, compared to WooCommerce, BigCommerce is far less popular in terms of the number of users. WooCommerce is now the most favorable platform in the global eCommerce industry with about 2,123,679 million eCommerce stores around the world. It is well known for its incredible power, flexibility, and features. In fact, the number of merchants choosing WooCommerce is upwardly increasing.
In this article, I will show you 3 reasons why you should choose WooCommerce as your next destination and show you how to migrate your store from BigCommerce to WooCommerce within 4 steps:
- Step 1: Preparation
- Step 2: Perform migration
- Step 3: Check result
- Step 4: Post-migration activities
Top 3 reasons to choose WooCommerce as your next destination
Firstly, lower running cost is considered as the main advantages of possessing a WooCommerce store. You can freely download WooCommerce from the website, it costs no money at all. This is especially suitable for small and medium businesses to start their own business.
However, you have to pay for other costs namely domain name, web hosting, or SSL certificate in order to put your WooCommerce store into operation. Normally, the total cost is about $93/ year including $14.99/year, $8/month, $70/year respectively.
Meanwhile, BigCommerce offers three main pricing plans: Standard, Plus, and Pro, which starts from $29.95 to $299.95/month after the 15-day trial period expires. Moreover, it will charge you a lot of money as BigCommerce limits your total annual sales on their plans. It means that you’ll need to pay for a more expensive monthly plan when your business grows.
2. Theme and customization
You can get access to unlimited customization, which is one of the greatest benefits when using WooCommerce. As a result, your website could be more powerful and have a better outlook by freely adjusting plugins, extensions, and themes.
When it comes to themes, WooCommerce offers both thousands of free themes and paid themes from Themeforest and WooCommerce themes stores, which is considerably cheaper and more customizable than BigCommerce.
BigCommerce only offers 12 free themes and 100+ paid themes available on their themes store. However, the price range for paid themes is quite high, from $145 to $300. Apart from that, BigCommerce themes are too similar to each other.
3. Apps and plugins
Besides, WooCommerce gains a reputation for its diverse plugin choices which allow merchants to add more helpful functionalities. It is an open-source platform so it offers more than 55.000 free plugins and thousands of premium ones. WooCommerce plugins are created to serve in various categories including Store management, Shipping, Payment,… By contrast, BigCommerce shows its limitation in apps and plugins when it just supplies about 800 apps.
